Reporting to the Health and Safety Director, the **Health and Safety Advisor** is responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating the health and safety activities for our shop as well as our construction sites. The advisor acts as an ambassador by promoting health and safety within and overseeing the development of healthy and safety policies, programs and behaviours. This position requires travel within the Halifax, NS region, and occasional travel to our facility in Caraquet, NB (3-4 times / year).

**Here are the responsibilities for the Health and Safety Advisor position in Darthmouth, NS**:
- Collaborate in the development and implementation of various H&S programs, policies, procedures and activties
- Support managers in the implementation and maintenance of various prevention programs;
- Conduct regular inspections of workplaces and work methods to ensure that safety rules are observed, that protective equipment is used properly and that all the necessary safety devices are in place and in good working order;
- Implement and maintain COR certification;
- Work with managers to develop and implement temporary assignments, accommodations and return to work plans for employees on occupational related disability leaves;
- Participate in risk analyses and make recommendations on safe working methods;
- Participate in the development of a H&S training program that meets the needs and responsibilities of employees and managers. Lead and / or coordinate training sessions;
- Ensure that employees receive the necessary safety training, in accordance with regulations and Company standards;
- Coordinate and facilitate the H&S committees of the various establishments and follow up on recommendations
- Coordinate the development and implementation of the general emergency measures plan;
- Participate in the establishment of priorities in terms of actions to be taken to achieve the set objectives, follow the corporate action plan;
- Participate in the establishment of H&S indicators and statistics;
- Coach and advice supervisors and team leaders in H&S matters as well as providing appropriate advice on improving managers' interventions in H&S and prevention;
- Set up and update the WHMIS monitoring system;
**General Skills**
- Professional diploma in health and safety;
- 4-5 years of experience in the construction or manufacturing industry;
- Understanding of current Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and Regulations;
- Ability to travel regularly to construction sites in the region and Caraquet, NB (3-4 times /year);
- Bilingual (English & French) is an asset
- Proficiency with all Microsoft Applications (i.e., Word, Excel) and Google Suite;

Pay: $80,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
