**Steele Auto Group** is seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Health & Safety Officer to join our team This role is instrumental in upholding and improving our health and safety practices, ensuring compliance, and continuing to create an environment where safety is everyone's priority
As a Health & Safety Officer with Steele Auto Group, you are responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, and to create a safe and healthy work environment. The Health & Safety Officer will work closely with management and employees to promote and foster a positive culture of safety and provide expertise in identifying and mitigating workplace hazards.
Location: Steele Auto Group Head Office, Dartmouth, NS or Remote if located in Atlantic Canada.
Hours**:Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm**, with occasional overtime required.
Annual Wage Range**:$65,000 to $90,000 commensurate with knowledge, skills and abilities.**
**Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:
**Health and Safety Management**:
- Develop, implement, and update policies, procedures, and programs to meet safety regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections, risk assessments, and safety training.
- Investigate incidents with root cause analysis and maintain accurate records.
- Coordinate emergency plans and drills for preparedness.
**Risk Management**:
- Identify and assess operational risks.
- Support the creation and execution of risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
- Ensure insurance compliance and assist with claims management.
**Regulatory Compliance**:
- Monitor and update safety practices to align with local, regional, and national laws.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies during audits and inspections.
- Ensure adherence to industry-specific standards and legal requirements.
**Reporting and Communication**:
- Track, analyze, and report safety performance metrics and trends to leadership.
- Act as the main point of contact for safety and risk inquiries.
- Promote a culture of accountability and clear communication.
**Technical Competencies**:
- Possess a deep understanding of safety regulations, risk management, and emergency planning.
- Effectively track and report performance metrics while managing multiple priorities.
- Utilize health and safety management software proficiently.
**Interpersonal Competencies**:
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Deliver effective training, mentor staff, and build strong, trusting relationships.
- Uphold ethical leadership and maintain transparency in reporting.
Other reasonable in scope duties as required.
**Requirements**:
- Professional certification in occupational health and safety (e.g., CSP, CIH) is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Health and Safety Advisor in a similar role.
- In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
- Ability to attend and conduct training, presentations.
- Some travel as required.
