The Manager Patient Transport is accountable for providing leadership, direction and expertise in all aspects of the provision of Patient Transport services at St. Joseph's Health Centre and the St. Michaels Hospital site, ensuring all standards are in keeping within best practice. The position is responsible for monitoring and ensuring operations are completed within budget and service targets for response times. The role will seek and assess innovated approaches to provide the services to ensure services and implement change where needed as new methods become available.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Establish, organizes and implements strategies for the operations of the departments as well as the effective use of its resources (budget, staffing)
- Effectively plans, organizes, assigns and monitors department responsibilities
- Ensures the achievement of the specific department objectives through the implementation of strategies and change management.
- Collaborates with the Senior Director Environmental, Patient Food and Transport Services to provide direction for the Department;
- Oversees team moving patients and patient related supplies/equipment throughout the hospitals.
- Provides day to day management of the Patient Transport department;
- Evaluates and implements equipment that will assist in improving the ability of Patient Transport workers to complete their work in timely and safe manner ;
- Collaborates with members of the environmental services management teams, clinical units, other departments and patients to determine task priorities to ensure timely patient transport;
- Participates in procurement related activities for supplies, and equipment as needed.
- Monitors overall operations and responds to escalated requests, including, following up on and investigating service gaps or customer concerns about service delivery
- Ensure the maintenance of portering system software with staffing and task types.
- Ensures standards are routinely met and exceeded; ensures any issues are resolved, in a timely manner
- Makes decisions on immediate operational matters including equipment malfunction, repairs, staffing shortages, human resources concerns.
- Updates and reassigns work assignments and schedules
- Ensures proper training for the all department staff
- Determines and implements initiatives to increase quality indicator scores;
- Benchmarks and monitors productivity and monitors performance to targets
- Provides solutions to operational problems including responding in an expedient manner to staffing and patient volume changes
- Maintains full responsibility for planning, monitoring, managing and allocating departmental budget to meet departmental goals;
- Ensures financial and planning processes are appropriately linked to projects, service delivery and other visible department outputs which provide value to clients, while identifying opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation;
- Managing resources in a manner that will optimally impact financial result;
- Ensures a strong customer satisfaction level by communicating regularly with customers, patients and organization stakeholders
- Formulates, implements and evaluates various Quality Improvement programs for the department
- Ensures the completion of quality/performance audits and risk management audits;
- Responsible for dealing with emergent situations
- Maintains responsibility for developing and executing human resources strategies for attracting, hiring, managing, developing and motivating union and non-staff;
- Provides direction/leadership for the team as a coach and mentor; defines accountabilities while directing and supporting the achievement of performance goals, within functional area of responsibility;
- Conducts performance reviews, of direct reports on an annual basis and/or as required to ensure excellent in the provision of work activities; takes appropriate corrective action, where appropriate, up to and including termination, as required to meet identified departmental needs;
- Develops and executes strategies to build and foster an effective team environment and a culture built on respect, trust, wellbeing and lifelong learning for staff, ensuing appropriate systems are in place to facilitate succession planning and appropriate management of vacancy;
- Provides advancement opportunities for future leaders, acting as a mentor for staff to facilitate development/attainment of leadership skills and technical competencies for the provision of excellence in work activities;
- Collaborates with the Management team to strategize on recruitment efforts for key positions to ensure the team possesses the required technical and other relevant skills to contribute to the success of the department;
