First Aid and Cpr Instructor

Contract Position - 3 years*, part-time - weekday

*Certifications are eligible for renewal on triennial basis.

We’re looking to engage passionate, detail-oriented individuals to instruct first aid and CPR courses from in Ottawa If you are a people-person who wants the challenge of presenting life-saving skills in your community, this challenge is for you

First aid and CPR courses range in length from 4 hours to 2-days, and we are looking for passionate people with time to teach life-saving skills during the business week. Successful applicants must be available to teach a few days a week, which will depend on course schedules. Instructors may choose to work between 2-5 days per week, and there is a high degree of flexibility for you to choose your courses; let’s say you don’t want to work on Wednesdays - you just don’t request a Wednesday course. It’s that easy

**Key Application Criteria**:
1. Must be available to work weekdays (minimum 2 days per week), and

2. Must have a vehicle to travel to on-site client locations within the National Capital Region.

**SJA is committed to**:

- Pay per course rates
- Pay mileage rates for courses outside of the City of Ottawa,
- Not withholding any income deductions, and
- Providing a T4A for tax purposes

Compensation rates are paid per course, depending upon type, specialty, and location of the course.

Base pay is equivalent to $16.88/hr. with incentive programs in place up to 32.50/hr.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Primary Responsibility: _
- Teach first aid and CPR courses during the week from 1050 Morrison Drive in Ottawa, and on-site for private clients throughout the National Capital Region.
- Promote the sale of first aid kits and AEDs.
- Secondary Responsibilities: _
- Support classroom operations by completing tasks as assigned by supervisor (e.g., decontamination of re-stock of training equipment.)
- Work with staff to innovate and elevate current curricula, with a strong focus on training aids (e.g., lesson plans, PowerPoint presentations etc.)

**Qualifications for Success**:

- Responsible, dependable, and dynamic personality to engage others,
- Past teaching/facilitation experience
- Ethical and can operate in accordance with Provincial and Federal regulations,
- Passionate about public service, facilitation and sharing life-saving knowledge,
- Would enjoy promoting first aid and CPR training and product sales,
- Skilled in the use of Microsoft O365,
- Strong discipline, time management, prioritization skills
- Able to follow direction and work autonomously,
- Strong communication skills in written and spoken English (French preferred),
- A valid driver’s license, and
- Vehicle large enough to accommodate transporting teaching equipment.

**May also have**:

- Experience in health and safety, workplace first aid and CPR,
- An intrinsic motivation to work with a not-for-profit organization,
- A St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid CPR C + AED certificate.
