We believe in our diverse shared power as being the key to serving our members, volunteers, community, and each other with the utmost care.GENERAL SUMMARY BGC Ottawa is seeking Lifeguards and Swim Instructors to join our aquatics team. Reporting directly to the Aquatics Coordinator, the successful candidates will ensure the safety of patrons, deliver engaging swim lessons, and maintain a positive, professional, and inclusive pool environment.RESPONSIBILITIES / ACTIVITIESSafetyEducate the patrons on safe swimming habits and enforce rulesPerform rescues and first aid necessary for the preservation of lifePlan and teach Red Cross Swim programsEnsure that lifesaving equipment is in proper orderReport known or potential hazards immediatelyPatrol change rooms on an ongoing basisHelp with admission standard swim testingAdministration / Public Relations Receive and respond to feedback from the public and staff.Act as a BGCO resource person to the staff and community.Assist with public interaction and education regarding rules, hours, and programsPerform daily and weekly task checklists as well as pool tests and program attendanceGeneral / Maintenance Assist in the maintenance and cleanliness of the pool, change rooms, storage, and laundry rooms.Maintain an acceptable appearance and wear the designated uniform while on duty.Attend meetings, in-service training sessions, and clinics as required.Perform other duties as assigned by Coordinator and Clubhouse Manager.QUALIFICATIONS: Required Education, Training and ExperienceNational Lifeguard CertificateRed Cross Water Safety Instructor CertificateStandard First Aid and CPR-C CertificateLifesaving Society Swim and Lifesaving Instructor, Airway ManagementFirst Aid Instructor, and other certifications are considered assetsDemonstrated Skills and Abilities:Sensitivity to and awareness of diversity issuesGood interpersonal and communication skillsDemonstrated leadership skillsDemonstrated conflict resolution and problem-solving skillsStrong organizational skillsProblem solving skillsAbility to take initiative and work both independently and within a team environmentGenuine interest in working with people of all agesPlease note the following are required for this position: HIGH FIVE certificationMinimum 16 years of ageWORKING CONDITIONSThese are the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
