JEA has been serving Vancouver Island and the surrounding area since 1959, with offices in Victoria, Nanaimo, Parksville, and Campbell River. Our projects range from surveys of individual properties to some of the largest and most complex residential, industrial, and commercial development and land use projects on Vancouver Island.
**Summer 2025 Co-Op Student: Field Survey Assistant**
**Key job activities**:
- Working under the direction and supervision of a survey crew chief and project manager to conduct cadastral/legal surveys, topographic surveys, construction surveys and more.
- Assist with the use of survey equipment including manual and robotic total stations, GNSS survey instruments, and various other field equipment.
- Assist in the collection of field data and the recording of field notes.
- Maintaining and organizing survey equipment and field supplies.
- Work effectively as a member of a team, including project managers, technicians, and field crews.
- Working safely and within JEA's defined safety protocols.
**Required skills and attributes**:
- Physically fit and capable of working outdoors in variable weather conditions and terrain.
- Willingness to take instructions, ask questions, develop skills, and expand knowledge of surveying practices.
- Professional demeanor when interacting with clients, fellow employees, and members of the public.
- Able to problem solve and prioritize tasks.
- Valid driver’s license and clean abstract.
**Preferred skills and experience**:
- A basic understanding of legal surveying requirements, techniques, and equipment.
- Prior experience or education related to legal surveying.

**Job details**:
- Up to 40 hours a week with the potential for overtime requirements (paid at 1.5Xhourly wage rate).
- This position requires in-person attendance.
- 2025 Co-op student wage: $23/hour
