**Background**:
**Position Summary**:
The Digital Learning Specialist (DLS) is an integral part of the TC team and critical e-learning support role to ensure TC meets its programming and quality objectives and goals.
**Duties & Responsibilities**:
Key responsibilities are to:
- Maintains TC’s learning management system (LMS), known as Toronto Centre Programs Platform (TCPP) powered by D2L Brightspace, with regards to technology, branding and corporate content.
- Reports to the Senior Director, Programs and works directly with senior management and program staff on digital projects.
- Collaborates with the program directors (PDs), program leaders (PLs) and the program coordination team (PCT) staff in a highly productive, dynamic and demanding environment. The DLS provides for the design, development and delivery of innovative digital learning management system-based programming to support TC’s financial stability and inclusion capacity building programs.
- Supports the PDs and the PCT in their development of programming content that will be hosted on the platform. Be a source of inspiration and expertise to expand the utilization of the system capabilities for programs in line with best practices for adult learning. Design and develop core content components in collaboration with the program team(s).
- Supports innovative development of an on-going, multi-year certification model as part of TC’s e-learning capabilities.
- Works with senior management in developing, implementing and evaluating TC’s learning and development strategy, including managing platform promotion[CM1], through branding and formatting that is consistent with TC’s Visual Image and Media Guide.
- Maintains an understanding of TC Program Lifecycles work processes to help achieve superior results and foster continuous digitization improvement.
Detailed breakdown of above-mentioned responsibilities is as follows:
- TC Programs Platform Management:
- Monitor system performance and usage.
- Manage change requests, bug reports, downtimes or other system maintenance with the vendor as required.
- Manage the administration of the TCPP, including configuration of settings, roles and permissions (super user).
- Lead periodic content reviews and clean-up to ensure that only relevant content is available on the platform to participants and Toronto Centre staff.
- Maintain relationship with the system vendor (D2L) and other providers and ensure any system updates affecting TC will be communicated in a timely fashion to all stakeholders impacted.
- Coordinate system rollouts as required by Brightspace using the test environment and production environment and support the PCT and others.
- Ensure TCPP self-paced training material is current, especially for new program directors and program coordinators, joining the team in the creation of program content and enrollment and management of learners.
- Be a source of best practices and provide suggestions for e-learning improvement or best practices.
- Prepare reports for senior management as required.
- Program Development:
- Provide expertise in adult learning and digital development for any learning approach.
- Provide best practices in regular information sessions to the TC staff.
- Review and update system templates and support documentation.
- Together with the assigned project teams develop standardized core content that will be made available as building blocks for programs.
- Support the creation of video content, knowledge checks, assignments, discussion boards, etc. to deliver this core content.
- Project manage the delivery of digital core content as required.
- Assess program evaluations and propose improvements to the platform as needed.
- Support TC staff in the development of scheduled digital programming.
- Collaborate with Marketing on the development of a marketing and communications plan.
- Coordinate vendor contracts for TCPP in collaboration with PC Lead seeking budget approval from senior management.
- Direct and collaborate with external consultants supporting the delivery of TCPP and related programming.
- Initiate and review vendor invoices prior to obtaining authorization for payment.
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:
- A university undergraduate degree in the area most closely related to adult education or educational design is required.
- Qualifications and training in at least two of the following is required:
- Technology-supported instruction.
- Planning and management of learning technologies and e-Learning.
- Design and development of digital learning technologies and environments.
- Adult education.
- At least three years’ work experience supporting learning programs.
- Knowledge of and experience in developing and maintaining learning management systems; knowledge of or experience with D2L Brightspace is a definite asset.
