**Child and Youth Care Worker**
Reporting to the Director of Operations and the Sr. Manager of CYFS, the CYFS Child and Youth Care Worker (CYCW) provides emotional support and coaching to adults, youth and/or children. Services include behavioural stabilization, social skill development, connecting participants and their families to community resources and parent education. Work with participants can occur on a one-to-one basis and/or in small group environments. The CYFS CYCW assists participants in identifying, understanding, and overcoming personal/family problems, and in establishing and achieving realistic goals for service that are combined with goals put forward by the referring individual.
**Wage**: $22.00 per hour
**Hours**: Part-Time, term position, 0 - 20 hours per week, Monday - Friday, daytime and evening availability will be required to meet our clients' needs.
**Location**: Nanaimo, BC
**This is a TERM POSITION lasting 1 year from hire date with the possibility of extension**

**Client Caseload Job Responsibilities**:
- Identifies social, economic, recreational, and educational services in the community that will meet participant needs and assists clients/caregiver/parent(s) with access.
- Demonstrates awareness and ability around advocacy and advocacy strategies. Acts in the best interest of the client and/or family and takes the appropriate steps to promote and advocate their needs with the community and the community care team.
- Facilitates physical, recreational, social, and educational activities one on one and in small groups.
- Meet with participants, prepare case histories, and obtain background information. Assesses the participant’s suitability for the CYFS Program and make referrals to other suitable programs within the BGCCVI and/or outside agencies in the community.
- Assists the case management team to identify participant needs, concerns and strengths. Provides input to the development of participant goals and objectives while ensuring client and family involvement in the planning and implementation of services by sharing authority and responsibility.
- Designs and implements 1-1, group work and behavioural guidance with sensitivity to client’s age, development, diversity, needs and wants and uses evidence-based theories, practices and resources to facilitate goal work.
- Monitors participant’s progress and evaluates their identified outcomes on an ongoing basis. Recommends changes or improvements to child/family program plans through Assessment, Interim and Discharge reports.
- Recognizes potential crisis situations, analyzes such situations accurately, develops strategies to deal with such situations, and informs the program manager when such incidents arise.
- Provides emotional support and feedback to participants (and their families). Assists participants in attending appointments and provides transportation when necessary.
- Teaches and role models life skills and behaviour management to participants and their caregivers. Serves as a positive role model to all program participants and constantly role models appropriate behaviour and interpersonal interactions with clients, caregivers, and parents.
- Maintains all necessary participant and program reports and statistics. Is skilled in utilizing computer client information systems and ensures that all required documentation is accurate and complete.
- Maintains contact with other agencies, professionals, government officials, and the community.
- Performs other related duties as required.
**Administrative and Reporting Responsibilities**
- Completes all client electronic and physical file requirements in alignment with the program timelines including but not limited to client case notes, reports, and forms.
- Completes all administrative tasks and responsibilities in an accurate and timely manner including but not limited to mileage, expenses, and acknowledgements.
- Provides the Sr. Manager of CYFS and/or Director of Ops with caseload and program related outcomes (i.e., Time tracking) on a regular and consistent basis; or as needed.
- Actively participates in and contributes to organizational programs including Performance Management, staff supervision and team meetings.
