35.00 hours/week Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Salary Range: $31.30 - $44.11 per hour ($56,966.00 - $80,280.20 per annum) Proposed Start Date: September 8, 2025
Trial/Probation Period: 840.00 work hours

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Work with students to provide guidance on admission to the University of Manitoba, its faculties, schools, and undergraduate and graduate programs
- Explain the benefits and procedures of the Access Program and its Common First Year to students illustrating how the Program meets their needs
- Explore academic and career goals and develop academic plans and monitor their implementation; evaluate progress
- Offer advice and assistance on suitable degree courses, program selection, and, if necessary, registration
- Monitor student academic performance, initiate a plan for remedial action; discuss personal problems that may affect academic progress; if necessary, collaborate with wellness staff; determine if academic supports outside of the Access Program are required and make referrals to relevant services
- Explore and discuss learning strategies related to academic success and assist with implementation
- Review academic standing of each student and develop action plans for students at risk of academic warning
- Clarify university policies and procedures and faculty-specific regulations, and admission requirements
- Advocate on behalf of students by liaising with programs across campus ; and community-based and governmental funding agencies
- Make students aware of important term dates and events
- Anticipate tutoring needs by analyzing student registration data and initiate hiring of tutors
- Participate in selection of tutors and match students with tutors; create opportunities for tutoring in both small group settings and one-on-one
- Monitor success of tutoring for each student individually and the tutoring program as a whole
- Manage tutoring budget and prepare term-based reports that compare tutoring expenses to academic success rates; make recommendations for optimal use of tutoring funds
- Develop, plan, and coordinate in-person and online orientation program and deliver workshops
- Support annual Access course planning by conducting student surveys, analyzing enrolment trends and success rates, and reporting on changes in admission requirements
- Monitor enrollment in courses offered by the Access Program; develop and implement strategies to ensure enrolment targets for each course are met
- Coordinate partnership programs with faculties and departments
- Represent the Access Program at recruitment events across Manitoba
- Assist with the planning and delivery of in-house events that celebrate student achievement and strengthen students’ cultural identities; participate in events facilitated by the Access Program
- Identify common needs and interests of students and organize workshops and information sessions
- Provide annual report analyzing the success of the advising portfolio, highlighting gaps, and making recommendations for improving the portfolio
- Promote awareness of the Access Program by liaising with advisors and student supports, funding agencies and Education Directors in communities, and community organizations
- Maintain an active appreciation and understanding of current community, provincial, and national issues and situations impacting Indigenous communities
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UM policies, admission requirements for all UM programs,
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant systems monitoring student success and advise Access staff of opportunities or issues

**-**Contribute to the revision and update of Access Program policies and procedures
- Create and maintain a current database of resources both internal and external to the University community
- Participate in and present materials at workshops and conferences
- Provide assistance with carrying out annual marketing plan
- Other duties as assigned.

**MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING**:

- Undergraduate degree is required
- Degree in social sciences or helping profession is an asset
- Completion of a certificate program in counselling or life-coaching from a recognized institution in addition to an undergraduate degree is an asset

**EXPERIENCE**:

- A minimum of three years directly related student advising experience in a post-secondary setting is required
- Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities (either on or off-campus) is required
- Demonstrated experience in interpreting and advising students on admission requirements and policies for a diverse selection of programs is preferred
- Experience developing and delivering programs using a holistic approach or integrated support model is preferred
- Experience with student financial aid and/or community funding assistance is preferred
