**Description of Duties and Responsibilities**:
The Indigenous Helper Cultural reports directly to the Program Manager and is provided supervision on daily case planning. The incumbent provides specialized trauma-informed daily functioning support services, as well as culturally informed and specific supports to all Spady program as a member of a multi-disciplinary outreach team (i.e. Spady CAT). This front-line position requires the provision of direct support and cultural services, referrals to clinical specialists and advocacy for appropriate clinical and cultural services and policies. The position requires a strong philosophy of collaboration and education around traditional ways of knowing and healing, while understanding that Spady CAT falls within a western framework. The position also requires the respectful and engaged participation in joint Team service planning and case reviews. The Indigenous Cultural Helper supports the Team by developing and maintaining a network of community resource and service providers, has a commitment to on-going education and training, respects client and staff confidentiality and adheres to rigorous ethical standards. This is a position with a mobile outreach team and many services are to be provided in client’s homes and communities.

**Specialized Client Services**:

- Orient and motivate clients toward appropriate daily functioning, life skills, physical health mental health and substance use support services from a culturally sensitive lens
- Refer to and support client engagement with relevant clinical and cultural services
- Develop and maintain a network of community service providers who adopt an Indigenous approach to recovery
- Provide supported referrals to external service providers
- Assess health, mental health, substance use and functional challenges within scope of practice
- Research and participate in relevant training opportunities

**Case Management**:

- Orient and motivate clients toward appropriate Spady CAT and/or community services
- Track and document client progress along Care Path, internal databases, and case files
- Liaison with and provide on-going support to referring agencies and client support workers regarding clinical issues
- Arrange and provide a significant portion of services in client’s homes and community

**Multi-Disciplinary Team Involvement**:

- Contribute to joint client service planning and case reviews
- Provide specialized cultural expertise and service supports to CAT staff’s caseloads and other Spady programs as requested
- Assist in the development and preparation of Team resources and materials
- Other duties or tasks as required by the Supervisor

**Position Requirements**:

- Strong understanding of Indigenous cultural ceremony, teachings, practices, and resources in the community and an ability to develop and foster community links and networks
- Strong understanding of the Intergenerational Trauma resulting from the residential school system and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission
- Understanding of the effects of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls epidemic
- Understanding of mental health resources in the community and an ability to develop and foster community links and networks aligned with community mental health integration
- Familiarity with and supportive of addictions recovery and Housing First practices
- Knowledge of trauma-informed service provision approaches and best practices
- Able to use their own vehicle and purchase a minimum of $2 million in liability coverage
- Able to submit a criminal record check
- Ability to travel to meetings and appointments
- Ability to work as a respectful and engaged member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Demonstrated level of maturity, including ability to work in an independent and ethical manner respecting staff and client confidentiality
