Touchstone Family Association is a non-profit community-based social service agency. We have been providing services to Richmond and nearby areas since 1983. Our services have primarily focused on preserving and enhancing family relationships. Through qualified staff, we offer a wide variety of professional services to the community.
We are currently recruiting for _Relief _Child and Youth Care Counsellors. This is a casual, on-call position and the staff is responsible for providing therapeutic care to both individuals and groups of adolescents or children within residential or other settings. The worker shall provide for the emotional, social, physical and intellectual needs of adolescents/children**. **This will be done with the full support of the full-time employees.
**Key Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Cooperates with a team approach, to implement program goals and direction.
- Complies with all program policies and procedures.
- Maintains working knowledge of all pertinent legislation.
- Represents the program/agency in a positive and professional manner in the community.
- Carries out and applies clinical and therapeutic direction as required within a relationship-based model.
- Completes and actualizes outcomes-based treatment plans for residents.
- Plans, prepares and conducts group or individual counseling sessions with clients and their families, including family support, the teaching of parenting skills, crisis intervention and mediation to children, youth and their families.
- Knowledge and skill in using clinical techniques when dealing with youth and the ability to control acting out and aggressive behaviour.
- Develops and maintains a trusting relationship with youth.
- Provides a positive role model; teaches clients effective social and interpersonal skills through tasks of daily living and social activities.
- Able to provide and participate in recreation designed to meet the needs, capabilities and interests of children/adolescents.
- Keeps daily written and monthly reports that provide relevant clinical and observational aspects while child/adolescents are in residence; as key-worker coordinates and leads case conference.
- Maintains a thorough knowledge of community resources to meet client’s needs; provides liaison, education and advocacy to other professionals, agencies and community and maintains positive relationships.
- Encourages and maintains youth in school programs or alternatives and outreach.
- Attends and actively participates in staff meetings and agency training.
- Performs household chores and maintenance as requested.
- Any other duties as required.
**Qualifications**
- A BA in related studies, or equivalent combination of comparable experience and education.
- One to three years’ work in a similar environment; direct experience in the community social services sector with a working knowledge of community-based treatment and intervention of youth.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License; no restrictions. (**Mandatory**)
- Satisfactory Security Clearance.
- TB Test.
- Must be fully vaccinated, as per Vancouver Coastal Health (**Mandatory**)
**Additional Information**:
This position is required to work in an environment often dealing with children/youth in high emotional distress. An ability to react clearly and quickly in crisis situations and maintain control of the environment is essential.
The program is located in Vancouver.
**Hours of Work**
As scheduled. Relief workers may be called for the day, evening or overnight shifts. This will be discussed with the manager.
**Wages and Benefits**:
$24.48/hour
$23.10/hour (overnight shifts)
(Relief staff also receive 10.2% extra in lieu of benefits)
As per the Touchstone Collective Agreement.
