**Position Summary**:

- Under the direction of the Team Leader, the Youth Substance Use Outreach Clinician is a member of a multidisciplinary team that provides clients and their families with substance use treatment and supports. The primary responsibilities include community engagement and outreach services to at risk youth. This position is responsible for providing assessment, early interventions and referrals to youth who are at risk, or identified as a risk, to substance use and/or mental health problems. This position will work in settings where contact with youth at risk can best be established, e.g., street-based, school, and community settings. Providing addiction services where the focus is maintaining clients in the community as well as enhancing youth treatment and rehabilitation plans through regular and supportive contact. As a member of a multidisciplinary health care team, providing direct community based early intervention, and assessment and treatment planning and referral for youth experiencing problems related to their substance use and/or mental illness. Provides, support, guidance, and education to substance users/and or mental health clients and their families as identified through assessment. The incumbent will be expected to work within the framework of Harm Reduction in substance use, promoting the benefits of this approach in collaborative work with collateral service providers.
- **Shift Rotation/Hours of work**: Monday to Friday, Days, 08:00 to 16:00

Overlooking the Peace River, the town of Fort St John is located above the Peace River Valley and serves as the capital of the Peace River district. The population of Fort St. John is over 21,400 but it services an area of approximately 70,000. The community is the hub of the Northeast with a cultural centre and library, theatre, and art space. There are seven elementary schools, two middle schools, and one secondary school. There is also a Northern Lights College campus. **Qualifications**:
- Bachelor’s degree (from an accredited educational institution) in an Allied Health, Behavioural or Social Science field relevant to the position plus two (2) years recent, related experience in a health setting working with complex youth clients with concurrent disorders.
**Skills and Abilities**:
- Assessment and Treatment: Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
- Teaching: Ability to teach clients and others both one-on-one and in groups.
- Knowledge Integration: Integrates best practice and current research evidence to support professional practice decisions and actions.
- Critical Thinking: Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve and make decisions effectively. Applies the problem-solving process demonstrating critical thinking and decision-making skills using a systems approach.
- Human Caring and Relationship Centered Practice: Ability to promote client-focused care that demonstrates care for and with clients and significant others, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, client advocacy and social justice concerns.
