The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus. The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.
**Position title**: Climate Strategy Coordinator
**Reports to**: Vice President, Administration
**Supervises**: None
**Employee status**: Hourly
**Length of term**: May 6, 2025 - August 29, 2025
**Hours per week**: 15-20 per week
**Compensation**: $19.00 per hour
Position Purpose
This project offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful climate action at AMS while gaining valuable research and technical experience in sustainability and GHG emissions management. The work will directly support AMS’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact and responding to student priorities on climate change.

**Responsibilities**:

- Review and synthesize relevant background materials, including AMS sustainability goals, UBC climate action strategies, and previous studies on AMS emissions.
- Conduct a GHG inventory for AMS food and beverage outlets and offices using the latest available energy use data.
- Develop a detailed report outlining the updated GHG inventory and recommendations to further reduce emissions for AMS offices and food and beverages.
- Other duties as required

Qualifications and Experience
- Must be a currently registered student at UBC Vancouver or one of its affiliated colleges
- Background in engineering, environmental science, or a related quantitative discipline
- Experience with GHG emissions calculations and life cycle analysis preferred.
- Familiarity with sustainability and climate action initiatives at AMS, UBC and beyond
- Experience with GHG reduction measurement is a strong asset
- Strong research, data analysis, and report-writing skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
