Reports to: Director of Programming
Location: Orillia & District (some travel through the region)
Position Type: Full-time (Contract - 1 Year, potential for permenant)
Start Date: July 2025
Compensation: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
Function:
The Mentoring Coordinator is responsible for the delivery, evaluation, and growth of our community-based mentoring programs in accordance with the National Standards of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. This role includes the recruitment, training, and support of volunteer mentors; coordination of meaningful mentoring matches; and expansion of outreach and programming in underserved areas.
The Mentoring Coordinator will play a key role in expanding access to mentorship across Simcoe County, improving training and support systems for mentors, and gathering data to inform long-term impact.
Primary Responsibilities:
Program Coordination & Case Management
- Manage a caseload of community-based mentoring relationships, ensuring quality and safety through regular monitoring and support
- Match youth with trained volunteer mentors, while working to reduce waitlist numbers
- Conduct intake and assessment interviews with youth and their families, ensuring their needs are documented and understood
- Facilitate match introductions, pre-match training, and closure processes
- Maintain timely, accurate case notes and records in accordance with agency policies and national standards
- Liaise with schools, service providers, and community agencies for referrals and collaborative planning
Mentor Recruitment & Outreach
- Lead targeted recruitment of diverse mentors with a focus on underserved areas including Barrie, Innisfil, Angus, Springwater, Oro-Medonte, Bradford and surrounding areas within Simcoe County
- Build and maintain strong community partnerships to increase awareness and engagement through local events and presentations
- Host information sessions for prospective mentors, families, and community stakeholders
- Coordinate youth engagement activities for children on the waitlist (e.g., summer camps, weekend events)
Training & Support
- Develop and deliver enhanced mentor training programs with a focus on mental health, poverty, trauma, and suicide prevention
- Engage local experts and culturally relevant facilitators to support mentor and staff learning
- Provide specialized support and ongoing coaching to mentors throughout the lifecycle of the match
Evaluation & Capacity Building
- Design and implement regular surveys of mentors, mentees, and families to evaluate impact and identify areas for improvement
- Refine and maintain data tracking systems (e.g., waitlist metrics, match rates, match outcomes)
- Prepare evaluation reports for funders and community partners, summarizing outcomes and lessons learned
- Contribute to agency-wide strategic initiatives and participate in committee work as required
Other Duties:
- Perform administrative functions necessary to support program success
- Assist with recreation, fundraising, and public relations events as required
- Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with agency policies and federal/provincial privacy legislation
- Keep stakeholders informed about changes in programming, policy, or agency initiatives
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Skills & Competencies
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in social services, child and youth care, education, or a related field. Social work experience highly recommended.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in youth programming, volunteer coordination, or casework preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and sound judgment
- Excellent communication and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a hybrid environment
- Proficiency in MS Office, CRM systems, and online collaboration tools
- Demonstrated understanding of mental health issues, poverty, trauma-informed practice, and culturally relevant programming
**Requirements**:
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
- Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check
- Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends
Pay: $41,000.00-$45,000.00 per year
