**What you will do**:
The Media Relations and External Communications Specialist is responsible for implementing strategic external communications that contribute to enrolment growth, raise awareness and enhance the image and reputation of Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning.

The Media Relations and External Communications Specialist will be responsible for taking a lead role in supporting and promoting Humber College and its communications priorities, with a particular focus on community-level public relations. The incumbent conducts media relations outreach, pitching stories according to college news and/or current events, acts as a spokesperson of the college in media interviews when assigned, provides media and other support at events, supports critical incident and crisis communications, conducts media monitoring and produces media coverage reports, and connects media with internal spokespeople as required. The incumbent creates and maintains an editorial calendar tracking important college dates/events as related to potential outreach, conducts outreach and provides information to external audiences as required, conducts research and evaluation, and provides day-to-day support to the Marketing & Communications team as needed.

The Media Relations and External Communications Specialist reports to the Manager of PR and Communications.

**What you bring to the role**:
**Education**
- 3 year diploma or degree in English or communications-related fields such as journalism, public relations, mass communications or media communications.

**Experience & Skills**
- A minimum of five years professional public relations, media relations.
- Demonstrated success working as a communications/public relations/media relations/journalism practitioner in a fast-paced, continuously changing environment.
- Superior written skills for both print and web, strong oral communication, good project management skills, proven social media skills and the ability to prioritize and work on various projects simultaneously.
- Keen sense of what makes a newsworthy story is essential.
- Established media contacts, media monitoring/media monitoring software experience and working in a large-scale environment as well as working both independently and as part of a team are assets.
