The Ministry of Education, W. Ross Macdonald School for the Blind requires an experienced aquatic individual to supervise an aquatics program for students who are blind, low-vision and/or deaf-blind.
**About the job**: In this role you will:
- Plan, organize and implement instructional, recreational and training programs designed to meet the needs of students and life guarding staff;
- Oversee day to day operations of the pool and swim programming;
- Organize competitive and recreational swimming programs and special community events;
- Schedule staff to ensure safety;
- Maintain records;
- Implement school policies and supervise established instruction and water safety techniques
**What you bring to the team**:
**Mandatory requirements**:
- CPO certification.
- Ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures under the Health Protection and Promotion Act, Regulation 565 Public Pools.
- National Lifeguard Society of Canada Lifeguard Certificate.
- Lifesaving Society Swimming Instructors Certificate.
- Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR with AED.
- Courses in Behaviour Management Systems or equivalent
**Skills and Qualifications**: Your background and experience enables you to meet the following requirements:
- Demonstrated oral, written communication skills to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and other professionals;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate with using hand-over-hand communication and other non-verbal methods of communication (or willingness to learn) to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and other professionals;
- Demonstrated excellent organization and planning skills to plan, organize, implement and facilitate effective recreational and training programs designed to meet the needs of students and life guarding staff;
- Knowledge of the Ontario Public Pools Regulations and relevant legislation and Provincial Schools Policies and Procedures, guidelines and practices;
- Ability to communicate with students who are Blind, visually impaired, and
deafblind using various communication techniques (i.e., hand over hand communication, braille etc.)
- Good judgment and problem solving skills.
