Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the role of a General Counsel (GC) at Concert Properties is multifaceted, encompassing legal expertise, strategic thinking, and leadership. This role is new to the organization, making this a great opportunity for someone keen on working in partnership with internal stakeholders to add-value to the organization.
Below are some key areas of work that this role will be accountable for:
**Legal Guidance**:

- Provide legal advice and guidance on a wide range of issues, including corporate law, real estate law, contracts, employment law, intellectual property, regulatory compliance, and litigation.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and legal documents.
- Assess and manage legal risks associated with business operations and transactions.

**Privacy**:

- Lead a privacy program to ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.

**Corporate Governance**:

- Advise the board of directors and senior management on governance matters.
- Oversee corporate policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance and alignment with company objectives.

**Contract Management**:

- Manage the company's contracts portfolio, ensuring proper execution, compliance, and risk mitigation.
- Develop standardized contract templates and guidelines.

**Litigation Management**:

- Manage external counsel and represent the company in legal proceedings when necessary.
- Develop strategies for handling disputes, lawsuits, and other legal matters.

**Collaboration and Training**:

- Collaborate with various departments to provide legal support and ensure legal considerations are integrated into business decisions.
- Conduct training sessions for employees on legal and privacy matters.

**Relationship Management**:

- Build and maintain relationships with external legal counsel, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders.

**Required knowledge and skill**:

- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD)
- Qualified lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia
- Significant legal experience (typically 8-15+ years) with a combination of in-house and law firm experience.
- Expertise in corporate law, real estate law, intellectual property law, contracts, compliance, and risk management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to draft comprehensive written reports and present to stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to manage and maintain private and confidential information with a high degree of professionalism.
- Strong stakeholder management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to foster internal and external relationships.
