Human Resources Officer

The Human Resources Department has a temporary 2-year contract for a full-time HR Officer. Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the HR Officer will be responsible for all facets of HR which includes but is not limited to HR Administration, Recruitment, Selection and Onboarding, Compensation and Classification, Employee File Management and Maintenance, Leave, Benefits and Pension Administration, and Employee Career Lifecycle. The HR Officer will perform a range of duties required to support departmental managers, Supervisors, HR and Administrative staff. The role ensures the organization is in compliance with provincial, regulations and laws governing employment, compensation, benefits, employment equity, and all HR-related issues.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to**:
- Advise and provide guidance to Managers and Supervisors regarding recruitment, selection and onboarding process (i.e. preparation of job postings, manage process to ensure vacancies are filled in a timely manner, salary determination, salary negotiations)
- Prepare all employment contracts and renewals for, admin staff, grant funded employees, postdoctoral fellows and trainees.
- Ensure all aspects of recruitment and selection processes follow Ottawa Hospital Research Institute policies, procedures, the Ontario Human Rights Code, and other employment legislation.
- Assist in implementing HR programs, policies practices, and compliance.
- Manage administration of group benefits, pension and retirement plans.
- Monitor and administer employee leave of absences.
- Provide guidance to management team on all aspects of Compensation and Classification (i.e. support requests for promotions and responsibility pay)
- Provide information related to policies, procedures, practices, benefit entitlements, and organization policies and procedures.
- Triage and solution complex payroll issues.
**Basic Requirements**:
- Completion of post-secondary education in Human Resources/Labour relations/Business Administration or relevant field.
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years of progressive experience in Human Resources, preferably in a hospital or research setting.
- At least 2 years experience with HRIS software systems and payroll systems.
- In-depth knowledge of Ontario’s Employment Standard Act
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to work on multiple projects and ability to juggle conflicting priorities.
- Ability to deal with people and act tactfully and respectfully with discretion when handling confidential information.
- Strong relationship management skills.
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Excellent knowledge of MS office.
**Contract Details**:
This is a 2-year full-time position with possibility of renewal
