Elk Valley Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a** Casual Switchboard Operator Clerk**to join their team in Fernie, B.C. Work hours range from 0 to 37.5 per week, with shifts available on short notice or pre-scheduled to cover leaves. Plus, we offer competitive wages, shift premiums, employer-paid training, and an Employee & Family Assistance Program to support you every step of the way. **What Will You Work On?** This position performs a variety of clerical duties associated with operating the switchboard, receiving and registering patients, processing accounts receivable such as: - Processes calls (internal and external) and establishes communication links. - Provides information to customers and assists in relaying messages to appropriate source. - Answers emergency calls and follows established communications procedures in emergency situations such as cardiac arrest, bombs threats and disasters. - Maintains Physician paging system and after hours physician’s emergency lines as per established protocol. - Records and organizes data to facilitate the operations of the morgue. Informs appropriate personnel of any unusual circumstances/situations. Arranges transport with funeral homes as required. - Receives "On-Call" information from physicians and updates data as required. Communicates changes to appropriate individuals needing current, accurate information. - Receives patent porter requests and dispatches transfers to the patient porter team. - Maintains confidentiality of classified information and keeps manager informed. - Performs other related duties as assigned. - Completion of Grade 12 - A 5-minute typing test (45+ NWPM) from a recognized institution, completed within the past 48 months (non-supervised tests not accepted).
