The Mississauga Halton Central West (MHCW) Regional Cancer Program (RCP) oversees the delivery and quality of cancer services for more than 2.2 million residents living in the MHCW region. Regional Cancer Programs are part of Ontario’s cancer system leading local strategy implementation to provide person-centred, safe, equitable, efficient, effective, and timely cancer care on a foundation of quality improvement principles.

The Regional Indigenous Project Coordinator will work with Indigenous communities in the MHCW region to improve cancer care services, focusing on prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. Collaborating with the Regional Indigenous Navigator, Regional Cancer Program Leadership, and Indigenous leaders, the Indigenous Project Coordinator will help develop and sustain a regional approach to address the unique cancer needs of Indigenous peoples. The role involves building respectful partnerships with community partners, supporting educational initiatives, and driving policy changes to reduce health inequities. Additionally, the Coordinator will support the implementation and evaluation of initiatives aligned with Ontario Health's Indigenous Cancer Strategy and contribute to the MHCW Regional Indigenous Cancer Plan.

**Position Accountabilities**:

- In collaboration with the Regional Indigenous Navigator, provide support to establish and maintain relationships with regional Indigenous and non-Indigenous leaders and partners, and provide reports on ongoing initiatives to the Regional Director and the Regional Vice President.
- Build strong relationships with Indigenous communities, coordinating culturally appropriate outreach, and ensuring Indigenous voices guide healthcare improvement efforts.
- Working with hospital partners, and Indigenous community to develop and implement policies supporting traditional Indigenous Practices and care needs
- Support the definition and sustainability of a self-identification process.
- Develop a workload measurement tracking tool to capture activity related to support for Indigenous peoples to help inform sustainability.
- Develop a regional inventory of cancer care related programs and services for Indigenous patients and families
- Support Indigenous Cultural Safety education and training and education for regional partners
- Engage with Spiritual Care Services, and Equity teams across the region to support knowledge transfer
- Monitor and record types of services provided for Indigenous patients, families, caregivers and communities at the hospital and community level through existing reporting mechanisms.
- Support and participate in regional and provincial palliative care research and innovation projects as appropriate.
- Provide project support in the development of guidelines and standards for care for Indigenous patients, families and caregivers.
- Complete an annual work plan identifying key activity, deliverables, performance measures and timelines in collaboration with the Regional Indigenous Coordinator and RCP leadership team
- Completion of OH-CCO Regional Indigenous Cancer Plan Year End report.
- Must have a valid driver’s licence and be willing to travel across region to build relationships and engage in initiatives with and for Indigenous partners.

**Qualifications**:

- Undergraduate degree or equivalent in the following areas: Health, Social Sciences, Education or Indigenous Studies; PMP designation an asset.
- Experience leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of system-level projects.

**Skills**:

- Effective communication skills, and ability to successfully build and sustain relationships;
- Experience in change management principles and approaches;
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple partners, identifying and supporting opportunities for improvement.

Knowledge
- Extensive knowledge of Indigenous people’s language, culture, customs, traditions and health/socioeconomic needs.
- Working knowledge of local Indigenous governance systems, protocols, organizations, communities and territories an asset.
- Strong insight into the importance of Truth and Reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
- Understanding of the cancer pathway as it relates to Indigenous peoples, an asset.
