**General Summary**
The Controller is responsible for managing the finances efficiently and effectively and providing support through accurate financial information and analysis to move the company towards its mission and goals. The Controller will be expected to lead a team of 3, while overseeing the finance and human resources department.
**Primary Responsibilities**
- Managing billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, cashflow, revenue recognition and inventory accounting
- Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions
- Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements
- Creating and managing the budgets and financial forecasts
- Managing cash and preparing cash flow reports, projecting cash needs at bi-weekly intervals through the Profit First method
- Managing tax and insurance filings (HST, GST, WSIB)
- Submitting payroll and managing quarterly bonus payouts
- Managing company benefits and RSP plans
- Securing funding such as government grants and establish strategic partnerships in support of company objectives
- Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
- Lead finance department initiatives, such as systems implementation, pricing/costing updates, and other departmental improvements, as needed
- Evaluating accounting and internal control systems
- Developing and monitoring business performance metrics
- Mentoring and supporting administrative team members
- Comfortable handling responsibilities beyond formal job duties outlined
**Expected Results**
Through proper execution of the above stated job responsibilities, a Controller will have a strong grasp on the company’s financial standings and be able to provide sound advice to the leadership team to help drive the company forward.
A successful Controller will be able to think strategically and make decisions effectively. They will develop, analyze and interpret statistical and accounting information to ensure profitability, capital expenditures, and performance against budget are within established guidelines. A Controller will be confident building and leading a team, as well as creating procedural documentation to be followed by all.
**Credentials and Experience**
- Post-Secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Accounting Designation (CPA, CMA preferred)
- Strong proficiency with accounting/financial management software (QuickBooks), and Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Team, Outlook)
- Exceptional communication, technology, analytical and management skills
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Previous experience in the private or public sector preferred
