**Your role at GEI.**

An Instrumentation and Monitoring Specialist is an interdisciplinary role that bridges heavy civil engineering and geotechnical engineering. The primary responsibility of this office-field role is to assist the Instrumentation Manager in installing, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting geo-structural instrumentation and monitoring systems. These systems measure and monitor critical geotechnical and structural parameters such as ground movements, deformations, stresses, loads, noise, and vibrations, often connected to automated data acquisition systems.

**Profile**:

- At least 4 years of experience working on heavy civil construction projects.
- Foundational understanding of electronics, basic programming (preferably Python), and familiarity with tools such as CRBasic editor.
- General knowledge of civil engineering concepts and construction procedures.
- Ability to assist in the assembly and preparation of Datalogger enclosures to meet client requirements.
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
- Basic technical writing skills to contribute to concise and clear reports.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Effective multitasking skills and focus on dynamic work environments.
- Awareness of Occupational Health and Safety Policies and relevant regulations.
- Flexibility to meet project demands, including availability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.

**Specific job duties**:

- Assist in site visits to assess project requirements and identify tools and equipment for specific instrumentation installations.
- Help install and configure geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring systems according to project specifications.
- Support the development of client deliverables, including work plans, health and safety plans, monitoring reports, and instrumentation designs/plans.
- Participate in the installation of AMTS (Automated Motorized Total Stations) and sensors such as strain gauges, tiltmeters, SAAs, MPBXs, inclinometers, piezometers, and other monitoring devices.
- Aid in the installation and maintenance of data loggers and associated accessories, including modems, multiplexers, antennas, signal cables, solar panels, and batteries, ensuring seamless data collection.
- Perform manual readings, download data, and prepare summaries, graphs, and factual reports to assist the Instrumentation Manager with data interpretation.
- Provide technical support to the construction team and collaborate with senior staff to implement solutions for monitoring system challenges.
- Help maintain databases of instrumentation records, calibration certificates, equipment manuals, and standards.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- A technologist diploma or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, electronics mechatronics, communications engineering, or a related field.
- 4-8 years of experience with geo-structural instrumentation and monitoring systems.
- Foundational knowledge of instrumentation systems and data acquisition technologies.
- A proactive attitude toward learning, troubleshooting, and working in a collaborative team environment.
