**Function/Purpose**:
The **Wastewater Collection Foreman** is responsible for enacting the overall field operations of the Wastewater Collection, Stormwater Collection, and Source Control programs under the guidance of the Lead Operator - Wastewater Collection. Responsibility includes assisting with the management of work plans and schedules, training, program administration, budgeting, and backfill coverage for Lead Operator - Wastewater Collection.

Support duties include record review, monitoring compliance, determine infractions, and respond to Utility Bylaw infractions. Position will comply with regulations, policies, and procedures, plan the day-to-day, assist with long-term operations, provide direction, guidance, support and leadership to staff. Also provides Bylaw enforcement pertaining to the Utility Bylaw.

**Job Requirements**:
**Education & Work Experience**:

- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Education or training in a one (1) year water/ wastewater related technical program preferred
- Minimum six (6) years in planning and operating processes of municipal infrastructure in a Level III or IV certified system or equivalent

**Certification**:

- Unrestricted Wastewater Collection level 4 Alberta Environment Operator’s Certification or equivalent with a requirement to achieve within 4 years
- Other combinations of education and experience may be considered

**Driver’s License**:

- Class 5 Drivers License
- Class 3Q preferred

**Supervisory Experience**
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience and demonstrated knowledge of appropriate supervision of a respectful and inclusive work place
- Supervisory experience in operating underground systems preferred

**Courses**
- Must successfully pass all safety certificate courses currently required and others to be defined by the Province or by the City

**Required Skills**:

- Well-developed verbal, computer and written communications skills and strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer aptitude including demonstrated proficiency with City based computer programs, databases, spreadsheets and word-processing software.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and the ability to accurately use a wide range of equipment.
- Current knowledge on regulations and procedural updates.
- Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised, co-operate with colleagues as a team, and to understand and follow instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, property and business owners/ officers, and their representatives.
- Deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Access awkward locations involving walking, climbing, bending and or twisting while carrying moderately heavy equipment, sometimes with unstable footings and work in heavy traffic areas and confined spaces.
- Ability to work inside and outside in all types of weather and in conditions which may be noisy, dirty, wet, cold, hot and disagreeable.
- Demonstrated safety skills in the use of specialized equipment including respirators and air quality monitors. Work may require use of harnesses and hoisting equipment.

**Specific Demands of the Job**:

- Sworn in as a Utility Bylaw officer and recognize personal legal responsibilities and liabilities.
- May be required to take part in on-call rotation or on-call standby, work extended shifts and respond to after hour emergencies.
- Ability to troubleshoot diverse problems and exercise critical thinking in the execution of their duties where precedent or policy does not always apply. Ability to handle new or emergency situations in a logical and reasoned manner involving difficulty or danger.
- Errors could significantly disrupt service levels and programs, require significant expenditures to correct, result in a loss of customer confidence and damage the public image of the City. Could have personal liability exposure in the event of environmental contamination.
- Ability to exert high mental and physical effort in activities.
- Good eyesight and manual dexterity.
- Good knowledge of a municipal government operating environment (legislative, management, budgeting, decision making, system elements) including the City’s Approval to Operate.
- Hepatitis A and B inoculation is recommended prior to employment.

**Remuneration**:$37.97 to $43.15 per hour

**Hours of Work**:80 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, after hours on-call may be required.
