Construction & Maintenance Equipment Operator 3

**Function/Purpose**: The **C & M Equipment Operator III** will operate mid-size, power driven construction equipment (e.g. Hydro Excavator, mid-size Dozer, front end Loader etc.) in a safe and efficient manner. Check, adjust and perform minor maintenance and repairs on assigned equipment. **Job Requirements**: - Grade 12 or GED Diploma - Unrestricted Level 2, Alberta Environment Water Distribution and/or Wastewater Collection Certificate. - Two years’ experience in construction activities related to urban Water Distribution and the Collection systems. Knowledge of the methods and materials used in water and wastewater construction and maintenance activities. - Ability to safely operate assigned equipment with a high level of skill. Equipment operation is performed in an urban environment, often with a limited operating area and a significant number of underground utility pipes and cables to contend with. Knowledge of the operating characteristics, functions and capabilities of assigned equipment and of required maintenance and adjustments obtained through on-the-job training or completion of courses (e.g. Keyano College or Olds College). - Successful completion of courses in defensive driving, safe work practices, confined space entry and first aid. - Ability to use various hand tools associated with equipment operation, maintenance and manual work. - Ability to respond courteously and effectively to public inquiries or complaints - Ability to work with mínimal supervision. - Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and reports. - Ability to work accurately to required grades, compaction requirements and specifications. - Ability to cooperate with colleagues as a team, to understand and follow instructions and to provide guidance and instructions as required. **Specific Demands of the Job**: - Ability to exert occasional moderate to heavy physical effort (e.g. changing attachments or other manual activities). - Ability to work outside in all types of weather and in conditions which may be noisy, dirty, wet or disagreeable (water leaks or wastewater main repairs). - Ability to work safely and to exercise care and diligence at all times when operating equipment near people, traffic, manholes, power, communication and gas lines. - Ability to perform shift work or be "on call" (e.g. water leaks, scheduled or off regular hour work). **Affiliation**: Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 417 **Remuneration**:$31.79 to $36.12 per hour **Hours of Work**:80 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, extended shifts, on-call rotation and after hours emergency work required.
