**Job Summary**
Helix Contracting is a small to medium sized general contractor working in the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (ICI) industry.
Our customers are municipal, provincial and federal governments throughout Ontario.
We are looking for individuals that possesses strong leadership skills, willing to travel to different job sites within North Western Ontario and complete the following duties.
**Please Note: This position is not located in Huntsville, you will be required to travel to different job sites across Northern Ontario.**

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches and understand project specifications (architectural, structural, MEP, and/or sketches). Verify field measurements and trueness of structure
- Comply with all company and governmental safety guidelines
- Ensuring that all projects are performed in accordance with contractual and quality standards
- Scheduling and directing the daily activities of work and taking necessary action to assure that the project objectives of cleanliness, safety, price, schedule, quality, and process are met
- Maintaining daily paperwork such as timecards, field reports, schedule updates, and E-mail correspondence to keep the various people involved with the project informed of important issues
- Implementing incremental project schedules that make sure upcoming events are on track and are being proactively attended to
- Promoting and maintaining a culture that values safety, health, and cleanliness
- Conducting and/or attending pre-construction, progress, and other project and staff meetings.
- Participating in training and other forms of continuous improvement initiatives.
**Critical Success Factors & Construction Skills**
- Understands the means and methods of construction associated with the renovation of commercial and institutional buildings typical throughout Canada
- Has a working knowledge of civil, architectural, mechanical, and electrical work
- Understands the sequencing of work and the strategy of creating effective project schedules
- Understands how to effectively staff self-performed work activities to achieve levels of productivity that meet or exceed industry norms
- Has the ability to understand the function and purpose of the final product
- Uses the knowledge to challenge the appropriateness of the work in progress
- Cut, shape, and smooth lumber and other material (e.g. drywall, fiberglass board, metal framing) according to measurements
- Build window frames, doors, staircases, frame buildings, and other structures by using raw materials or pre-constructed items
**Action Oriented**:
- Is goal-oriented and can react quickly to challenging circumstances to achieve the desired end results
- Is proactive, plans well, and addresses problems promptly
- Is committed to doing quality work the first time with little or no need for re-work
- Works to meet or beat schedules and is driven to bring closure to avoid long punch lists
- Is organized and produces a paper trail that can be easily understood by third parties;
- Has infinity for regular maintenance, cleanliness, and safety and is intolerant of those who don’t
**Requirements and Qualifications**
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a carpentry program at a vocational school or carpentry apprenticeship is an asset
- 3+ years of professional carpentry experience
- Strong working knowledge of carpentry techniques and methods, including installation and construction
- Proficient in using hand tools as well as measurement tools
- Valid driver's license.
- Good physical condition, stamina, and dexterity
- Security Clearance & Criminal Record
