Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the daily accounting operations of the resort and ensuring the monthly financial statements are prepared accurately and in a timely manner. Strong problem-solving skills and solid communication with both financial and non-finance individuals are key to the role.

Duties & Responsibilities

Daily / Weekly
- Oversee daily activities of the accounting team, providing direction, coaching and ongoing support
- Maintain bank and credit card reconciliations throughout the month to ensure quick reconciliation at month end
- Upload daily revenue and statistics to the accounting system from POS systems and deferred revenue worksheets
- Prepare and distribute a daily revenue report to resort stakeholders
- Work with various resort departments to ensure new products are setup correctly in POS systems, ensuring they are properly categorized in the financial statements and revenue allocations are accurate for special promotions
- Assist guests with credit card charge inquires
- Assist with the management of the resort’s procurement system, ensuring purchase orders are being received accurately and old orders that are no longer necessary are appropriately cleared out of the system
- Assist individuals around the resort with procurement requests when required, ensuring resort policies are being adhered to at all times
- Assist with the preparation of capital project requests, ensuring requests meet the resort’s capitalization criteria and are classified correctly, and manage project approval status
- Prepare gratuities and uniform deduction worksheets used in the preparation of payroll bi-weekly
- Review and post the bi-weekly payroll journal to the accounting system, ensuring appropriate job position classifications have been used, and the reconcile to the bank payment
- Develop and enhance standard operating procedure documentation for finance processes at the resort
- Other miscellaneous tasks that support the goals of the finance department

Monthly
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations for the Director of Finance’s review
- Ensure the finance team has the required support to achieve their month end deadlines
- Ensure income statement transactions have been coded accurately, in line with the resort’s Chart of Accounts Reference Guide
- Assist with analysis of month end financials, reconciling actual to flexible budgets variances
- Independent preparation of month end files for smaller companies related to the resort for the Director of Finance’s review
- Review and approve finance team monthly time sheets
- Perform ad-hoc analysis as required

Annually
- Assist with the year-end financial and compliance audits and business valuations
- Assist with the preparation of annual budgets as required

Skills and Qualifications
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of professional accounting terminology, techniques and principles
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail, proven ability to analyze data and strong organizational skills
- Ability to identify problems, solve independently and recommend process improvements
- Ability to maintain composure while working under pressure and foster a positive environment
- Ability to strategically identify priorities and work to achieve individual and departmental goals
- Proficiency with CaseWare Working Papers, Microsoft Business Central and Microsoft Excel
- Exposure to Opera Property Management, Axess and ADP would be considered an asset
- Flexibility with work schedules, understanding there are time where long hours, evenings or weekends may be required to meet reporting deadlines

Education & Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a finance role and previous experience leading a team
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or a related field
- Experience within the hospitality industry would be considered an asset
- Experience with IFRS and SOX compliance would be considered an asset
