Crew Leader-fence Construction

**Position Overview**: Reporting to the Project Manager, the Crew Leader is responsible for construction of fences around property, including residence and commercial properties and buildings.
- Responsible for ensuring fence is being constructed within the property boundary, as indicated on the Real Property Report (RPR).
- Lead and supervise two to three members of a crew to successfully install or repair various residential and commercial fencing projects. Responsible for the health and safety of all employees under his/her jurisdiction, while on the job site.
- Supervises and participates in the work of a crew performing fencing and snow removal services for customers
- Ensures fellow employees follow CAF’s procedures for shop cleanliness and yard maintenance, and mentor’s new employees.
- Maximizing crew efficiency by anticipating bottlenecks, approaching tasks and requests in a proficient and highly organized way, and using resources effectively.
**Key Duties & Responsibilities**
**Staff Oversight, Site Supervision & Safety**:
- Respond to follow up all warranty inquiries from customer and schedule repairs in a timely manner
- Perform vehicle and trailer inspections
- Perform follow up inspections on complete projects to ensure there are no deficiencies and the customer are satisfied
- Ensure that all CAF policies and procedures are practical and being followed
- Supervise laborers on job site
- Required to wear all safety equipment as mandated by CAF’s Safety Policies
- Directs and verifies compliance with Company Safety Policy and Programs
- Checks for utilities at each construction site
- Inspecting property plans to determine the parameters of each site when these are unclear
- Conduct site inspections to ascertain the number of materials needed to complete each installation
- Checking for gaps and vulnerabilities in the fencing and correcting these, if needed
- Preparing the site by digging holes and trenches in which the fencing will be positioned
- Establish the location for a fence, and gather information needed to ensure that there are no utilities or water lines in the area
- Determine appropriate locations for installations
- Align posts, using string lines or by sighting, and verify vertical alignment of posts, using string level
- Measure and lay out fence lines and mark posthole positions, following instructions, drawings, or specifications
- Mix and pour concrete around bases of posts or tamp soil into postholes to embed posts
- Install metal hangers onto wood post, screw pickets into top, middle, and bottom rails
- Assemble gate hardware and fasten gates into position, using hand tools
- Establish fence line with customer
- Provide scope of job and schedule how long it will take
- Measure fence lines and posthole positions
- Assemble gates and attach gates to fence

- Ability to read and interpret documents, such as project drawings, contracts, Real Property Reports, Alberta One Call documentation
- Skill set to complete required documentation and correspondence for projects
- Capability to speak effectively with public, customers or employees of organization
- Able to troubleshoot situations, with the ability to resolve that meets the customers satisfaction
- A desire to surpass the customers’ expectations
- The ability to understand the project scope and manage timelines
- Maintain quality standards while effectively organizing and delegating work to crew members

- Good communications skills
**Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities**:
- Ability to understand, follow, and communicate verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and customers
- The capacity to manage and resolve conflict with coworkers, supervisors, and/or customers.
- Thorough knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in each area of assigned work
- Excellent visuospatial and measurement skills
- Physically fit and dexterous
- Ability to safely utilize hand and power tools
- Considerable knowledge of work hazards and applicable safety precautions
- Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time
- Working knowledge of leadership skills, including communication (verbal and written)
**Education & Training**:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Qualified by training and/or experience
- Class 5 Drivers License and clean drivers abstract are required
- Ability to operate the appropriate tools and equipment
- Fence, carpentry and/or construction experience
- Forklift & Skid Steer experience and license preferred
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
**Salary**: $24.00-$28.00 per hour
