Reporting to the Vice President and General Manager, MRO, the Manager Labour Relations will be responsible for the management of labor and union relations as well as participation in the negotiations of collective agreements, as well as supporting managers in the analysis and understanding of labor conventions, laws, regulations, and standards.
This position is based in our Edmonton office.
**Responsibilities**:
- Partner with business leaders to provide advice and guidance regarding the interpretation, compliance, administration and implementation of the Collective Agreement(s) terms and conditions.
- Serve as lead negotiator in collective bargaining, ratification, and implementation of new collective agreements.
- Responsible for the collective bargaining pre-negotiation preparation research; identify internal synergies in collective agreement terms and conditions while ensuring terms and conditions are aligned with current market.
- Lead administration of grievance procedures and other dispute resolution procedures; negotiate agreements and settlements in conjunction with the business leader.
- Consult with internal and external labour legal counsel regarding labour strategies, legislation or other applicable LR issues; develop and support maintenance of legal advice repository.
- Responsible for the research, administration and distribution of Labour Relations documents including but not exclusive to wage schedules, meeting minutes, summaries, presentations, Collective Agreements, and related documents involving unionized employees.
- Support company’s Labour Relations strategic needs through development and active involvement/implementation of LR Strategic Plans.
- Enhance understanding of Provincial and Federal Labour Relations Code(s), as well as Labour Relations case law, to support LR Strategic Plans and Grievance/Arbitration administration
- Provide effective employee relations consultation and guidance to site managers for the resolution of identified problems with a key focus on maintaining a positive and inclusive employee relations climate through fostering a high level of employee trust, while providing appropriate coaching and advice to site managers.
- Work in close collaboration with internal/external Indigenous and business leaders to ensure equity, diversity, inclusion, Indigenization, to ensure principles and initiatives are integrated into strategies, policies, programs and services
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislative requirements and Collective Agreements for all hourly employees.
- Maintain an external network of professional contacts in order to remain current on Labour Relations trends.
- Approximately 25% travel to various locations.
What we are looking for
- 8+ years of experience in a Labour Relations role with experience supporting a unionized or organized workforce
- Experience with building trades unions, CLAC and employee associations
- Provide high quality service with a focus on strong business acumen and quality decision making with the ability to propose creative and innovative solutions to meet business needs
- Strong technical skills in Labour Relations Collective Agreement administration and interpretation, market research/analysis and experience with union negotiations
- Strong leadership, coaching, facilitation, conflict resolution and relationship management skills.
