**POSITION FUNCTION**
Coordinate and participate in the installation, rehabilitation, repair, inspection and testing of Water, Wastewater, and Storm Water systems.
**KEY DUTIES**
Coordinate and review the work of approximately 6 staff; ensure schedules, procedures and established performance and safety standards are met; provide employee training and input to employee performance appraisals.
Performs any combination of tasks pertinent to installation, control and operation of a water distribution or wastewater collection system. Excavate and backfill material prior to installation or for the repair of any of the described systems; install pipe and related appurtenances; control flow of water/wastewater; monitor gauges, meters, and control panels and observe variations in operating conditions utilizing scope, camera and CCTV; operate valves and gates either manually or by remote control; start and stop pumps, engines, and generators to control and adjust flow; maintain shift logs and record meter and gauge readings; collect samples and perform routine field analyses; test chlorine levels in water system; clean and disinfect all tools; perform routine maintenance functions and custodial duties; set up traffic control as required.
Read and interpret engineering plans for system design and location of utilities; assemble water meters in shop for installation on site; mix and pour concrete slab prior to meter installation and for manhole covers; determine and order materials, staff resources and equipment required daily; purchase materials and reconcile purchase card statements; complete equipment rental and material slips and time sheets; review job matters and schedules with outside agencies, contractors and City departments; respond to enquiries and complaints from the public regarding service disruptions; maintain a variety of records and reports for maintenance and new installations; notify pertinent agencies, utilities, business and residences regarding loss of service and new installations. Respond to emergency calls for service as required.
Operate a vehicle to transport equipment and materials; maintain supply of parts and materials in service truck for on‑site repairs; operate various equipment related to excavation and pipe installation; follow applicable Confined Space Entry procedures; load and unload equipment manually or using a forklift.
Perform related duties where qualified.

Work is assigned and reviewed by supervisor.
Issues such as extensive changes to project design and scheduling discussed with supervisor.

Deal effectively with the public and outside agencies.
Work safely on job sites.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification**:
High school graduation.
Minimum of a level 2 in either Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection complemented by a level 1 in the other discipline.
Traffic Control Certification. (16 hours)
Current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence.
**Experience**:
4 years of related experience with Water distribution and Wastewater systems or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
