As the Consultant, you actively manage non-occupational short-term disability files and provide a collaborative process for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the options and services available to meet an individuals’ health needs through communication and accessible resources. You aim to promote high quality, cost effective outcomes to disability management.

As the successful Consultant, you use your strong problem solving and analytical thinking skills to enable effective decision making. Your organization and prioritization skills enable you to coordinate, plan, and manage multiple and competing tasks. As you interact with a variety of teams and stakeholders, you comfortably use your oral and written communication skills. Additionally, your people focus helps you provide proactive, business-friendly advice with a focus on adding value. You have an eye for continuous improvement and are interested in learning and growing in your role.

Due to the nature of your work, you possess a high degree of discretion in maintaining confidentiality. You have demonstrated program, case management and time management skills; well-developed consultation, coaching and process facilitation skills; and, training, change management and presentation skills. You are a team player.

What you’d be responsible for

Planning:

- Providing input to Abilities and Wellness plans and directions, ensuring on-going, appropriate relationships with other positions within Human Resources and the rest of EPCOR

Case Management:

- Adjudicating and determining eligibility for in-house disability leave plan
- Collaborating with stakeholders to assist employees with pro-active rehabilitation plans to enable timely and safe return to work
- Assisting in the development and implementation of appropriate return to work plans
- Assisting managers in identifying and assessing appropriateness of modified duties
- Liaising with Human Resources, unions, employees, managers and other stakeholders (i.e. LTD insurers, WCB, etc.) to ensure a successful return to work plans
- Collaborating with employees, managers, unions and other stakeholders where there are non-support decisions
- Leveraging conflict resolution, problem solving and coaching skills to identify non-medical factors which may be impacting employees’ return to work and assisting them in accessing appropriate support resources
- Providing timely and service-oriented communication to all stakeholders related to the processes and claim decisions
- Integrating, implementing and reviewing Ability Management and Wellness processes to ensure compliance to policies, standards, regulatory requirements
- Assisting in the development of appropriate programs and policies and identifying gaps in service and ways to improve processes
- Educating and coaching managers and employees regarding their roles, responsibilities and required collaboration throughout the duration of the case

Workplace Attendance Support and Assistance:

- Delivering, coordinating and/or consulting on programs related to optimal attendance at work
- Ensuring efficient and timely delivery of workplace attendance advice
- Working collaboratively with managers, and HR professionals as a trusted advisor on various employee health and disability issues
- Providing education, coaching and consultation on Health and Wellness programs
- Leveraging data spooled from Oracle reporting software to support decision making and practices

Disability Accommodation:

- Having knowledge of best practice accommodation practices and relevant legal requirements
- Having creative collaboration skills in involving stakeholders to find best win/win solutions

Wellness/Illness and Injury Prevention
- Having knowledge of rehabilitation resources in the Edmonton area and nationally
- Having knowledge of health promotion strategies

Delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics:

- Aligning work outcomes with best practice return to work expectations
- Ensuring all documents are consistent with EPCOR branding and culture (how we treat our employees)
- Delivering decisions within defined time frames
- Balancing financial stewardship of EPCOR’s benefit plans/resources, productivity and the health needs of our employees
- Participating in projects and initiatives as required

What’s required to be successful
- Post-secondary degree in Disability Management, Human Resources, Occupational Therapy (or related discipline)
- National Institute of Disability Management and Research (NIDMAR) certification is required; Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or Certified Return To Work Coordinator (CRTWC) preferred
- 5+ years of experience working in the disability management field
- Experience managing many different types of disabling conditions as well as familiarity with how addiction related disabilities can impact work ability especially safety sensitive work
- Knowledge regarding differences with
