ATS is the industry leader in using technology to revolutionize engineering and design processes. We create tools to help engineers and architects to integrate complex systems quickly and accurately for North America’s most exciting building projects.
ATS has a strong work ethic committed to delighting clients and providing them with exceptional service. Our thriving and motivated culture is the heartbeat of our organization. We hope you will become a part of it
We are looking for a detail-oriented and technically strong Data Specialist with experience working with structured data, automation, and modern data tools to join our team in Toronto. In this role, you will be the bridge between physical construction products and our digital SaaS platform. You will be responsible for translating complex product specification sheets (with a focus on mechanical and architectural) into structured database entries, logic rules, and digital assets.
**Please note this is a full-time in office position.**
**What You’ll Do**:
- Analyze technical spec sheets (cut sheets) for building products to extract technical data and compatibility requirements.
- Create, maintain, and optimize structured data models using internal tools and SQL; identify opportunities to automate repetitive data workflows. You will manage the interdependencies between products
- Logic & Configuration: Build and test configuration rules and filters. You will define the logic that determines which products can be sold together to prevent user errors.
- Asset Management: Organize and map digital assets, including high-res images, PDF spec sheets, and Revit/CAD drawings to their corresponding product entries.
- Collaboration: Work within an agile environment, utilizing tools like Git (Merge Requests) to submit your data changes for review by the engineering team.
- Quality Assurance: Audit the database for accuracy and completeness to ensure a seamless experience for our end-users.
- Manage ongoing projects and inquiries to meet business deadlines.
- Interpret business requirements to ensure Client data is correctly categorized and added to our database.
- Design and maintain structured product data models that scale across thousands of SKUs and configurations.
- Leverage scripts, formulas, or lightweight automation (e.g., Python, SQL, internal tools, AI-assisted workflows) to reduce manual data entry and improve consistency.
- Define and enforce validation rules, constraints, and dependencies to prevent invalid configurations and downstream errors.
- Use modern AI tools responsibly to accelerate data extraction, normalization, validation, and quality checks.
**Basic Requirements**:
- Minimum 2-year College Diploma or 4-year University Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Civil/Mechanical Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
- Domain Knowledge: Basic familiarity with the construction industry, specifically Division 22 (Plumbing) products
- Strong Excel skills (advanced formulas, data validation, pivot tables) OR equivalent data tooling experience.
- 1 year of experience in architectural/building technician or equivalent exposure.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with excellent fluency in English.
- Attention to Detail: An exceptional ability to spot errors and maintain focus during repetitive tasks.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage tasks independently.
**Nice to haves**:
- 1-2 years of Mechanical Engineering background
- Knowledge of any Building Codes across North America
- Understanding of mechanical, architectural, electrical products within the construction industry, terminology, or MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) systems.
- Hands-on experience with Python and SQL for data transformation, validation, or automation.
- Experience working with software technology teams and familiarity with agile methodologies.
- Ability to facilitate information gathering from manufacturers and other sources.
