Timmins, Canada Living Space Full time

**Hours**: Monday to Friday with the ability to work other shifts and weekends for training. Six(6) month contract with possibility of extension.
**Location**: 316 Spruce Street South, Timmins ON

**Position Summary**:
Under the general direction of the Senior Management Team, the Education and Engagement Coordinator will work collaboratively with community partners, stakeholders, and across different program areas of Living Space. This position is responsible for supporting the design, implementation, and rollout of training, awareness, and education activities. The position operates in accordance with related legislation, Living Space policies and procedures, vision, and values.

**Requirements**:

- Paid or unpaid experience working with vulnerable individuals.
- Ability to speak multiple languages; including Cree will be considered an asset.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field. A combination of relevant education with experience in mental health and addictions, social service work and/or relevant work experience will be considered.
- Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers would be an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, social media and virtual video conference software/programs.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality effectively with the ability to work within professional and ethical guidelines.
- The ability to engage and work with a broad range of clients with diverse and complex issues.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills including strong clinical judgement and conflict resolution skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of the complex issues related to addictions, mental illness, poverty, and homelessness, as well as the impact of social/cultural/economic factors on the determinants of health.
- Experience with electronic reporting and case notes is considered an asset.
- Any additional training certificates are considered an asset: CPI, ASIST.
- Any additional ‘Train the Trainer’ designations are considered a strong asset.
- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check is required.
- Living Space has a Vaccination Policy that requires employees to take part in COVID-19 vaccination programs recommended by Public Health and provide an up-to-date TB screening record.

**Core Competencies**:

- Experience advocating for marginalized and complex clients.
- Demonstrated knowledge of issues related to poverty, homelessness, substance use, and mental illness.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in community settings with mínimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to develop a wide range of high-quality written materials. This includes but not limited to case notes, shift logs, incident reports, legal documents, and electronic documentation.
- Proven effective time management skills.
- Demonstrated strong sense of initiative, personal accountability, and dependability.
- Familiarity with community partners and the programs they offer.

**Specific Duties**:

- Design, implement and support the rollout of an education and training program both internally and externally.
- Support the recruitment of volunteers, both with and without living/lived experience to support Living Space programs.
- Attend virtual and in-person meetings, training and workshops and develop creative ways to bring that information back to the shelter staff.
- Establish and build strong, effective, and constructive working relationships with staff and community partners.
- Develop a community education campaign focused on addressing the stigma around homelessness.
- Develop resources for community partners around trauma informed practices and how to better provide services to marginalized populations.
- On occasion, you may provide support to individuals accessing Living Space programs:

- Be familiar with other community resources and refer individuals to the appropriate community resources that may benefit them.
- Manage challenging situations and difficult behaviour.
- Assess safety and suicide risks and connect individuals with supports as appropriate.
- Provide effective crisis management and intervention when required.
- Ensure the safety of individuals at Living Space by:

- Monitoring program space and Living Space property by completing routine patrols and safety checks of the interior & exterior of Living Space.
- Being familiar with emergency & fire procedures set out by Living Space policies and procedures.
- Recording all incident reports as per Living Space policies and procedures.
- Notifying the Health and Safety Committee of any health and safety concerns.
- All other tasks and duties as assigned.
