**Join the team at the Varley**

Are you a student with a passion for art, and a desire to gain experience working with children? We're on the lookout for a Program Counselor to join our team. Work with creative instructors to help facilitate fun, and educational art activities in an inspiring, and inclusive environment. Weekends, and holidays are required.

**Key Roles and Responsibilities**
- Collaborate with instructors to help deliver high-quality children’s art programs
- Provide excellent customer service, and prioritize health and safety of all staff
- Act as the first point of contact for parents/guardians; Assist with participant sign-in, and sign out and follow all City of Markham protocols
- Supervise children during art-making activities assisting them as needed; Facilitate some educational art activities, including games
- Prepare art materials, and set up studio facility as required; Clean and maintain studios, sinks, and art storage
- Maintain attendance records, health and safety information, and personal timesheets.
- Demonstrate the confidence, and ability to make decisions in the best interests of participants
- Effectively problem-solve to resolve conflicts as they arise.
- Report all incidents to the Art Instructor, and complete all required safety forms
- Complete all mandatory training through the City of Markham, and the Varley Art Gallery
- Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**
- Minimum age is 16
- Passion for visual arts, education, early childhood education or art history an asset.
- Must be available to work weekends and holiday; commit to 10 week courses
- Previous experience working with children
- Leadership capacity is an asset (i.e. student or youth council member, previous experience
- Previous camp experience is an asset
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR 'C' is required **(mandatory)**:

- HIGH FIVE Healthy Child Development certificate is required **(mandatory)**:

- Completed VSC from local police dept. **(mandatory)**
