Site Superintendent

**JOB DESCRIPTION**
**DUTY OR RESPONSIBILITY**
- Administer quality control programs, including collection of appropriate inspections and documentation as required.
- Maintaining daily and weekly project documentation such as daily logs, photo records, safety reports, time sheets, etc. consistent with company policies.
- Maintain site project files, including master set of drawings. Collect all information to produce a red-line as built drawing at project completion.
- Purchasing of materials, services and acceptance of deliveries, and responsible for safe storage of material (company and customer supplied) on site.
- Prepare progress reports and short-term look-ahead schedules
- Working knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Control Practices in the construction industry.

What kind of authority or decisions can this role make? What kinds of decisions or recommendations are referred to a higher level?
- Site Superintendents are authorized to purchase materials, labour and equipment to meet project schedules in accordance with the project schedule and budget up to approximately $50,000
- Architectural, major structural, schedules and budget issues are deferred to Project Managers or Senior Management.
- Site Superintendents are to direct the workflow of employees and trades assigned to the site.
- Site Superintendents are responsible for discipline and performance management issues of site employees. Hiring and terminations decisions require Senior Management’s approval
- Site Superintendents are responsible for ensuring safe work practices on the job site and can stop work, send employees or trades off site and do what is deemed necessary to maintain a safe site.
- Site Superintendents have the authority to reject materials or quality of work that does not meet specifications or acceptable standards.

Describe the typical level of education and specialized fields of study required for this role.
- Degree/diploma from a post-secondary or trade school, Journeyman Carpenter, Interprovincial Red Seal & CCA Gold Seal certifications or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Professional engineering status or construction trade certification may be required for some projects.
- Leadership for Safety Excellence, Prime contractor, First Aid, WHMIS, CSTS, Fall Protection training are all mandatory requirements for Site Superintendents.

Describe specific technical/specialized skills or experience required to perform this role.
- Experience in the construction industry as a construction supervisor, foreman or field superintendent.
- Demonstrated ability to manage construction projects - utilizing planning, scheduling, cost control, safety, and construction technologies.

**QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED**
**KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) and leadership abilities along with a strong team orientation are required
- Considerable knowledge of the equipment, material, supplies/suppliers associated with the scope of the construction project at hand
- Knowledge of the methods and procedure required for the safe handling and storage of construction equipment and supplies
- Able to read and interpret construction drawing and update as-builts appropriately.
- Ability to effectively supervise the day-to-day activities of the workforce.
- Advanced computer skills in MS-word, MS-excel, MS-outlook would be an asset.
- Competent in the operation requirements of material handling vehicles and associated work platforms.
- Knowledge of or ability to use Bluebeam and Autodesk would be an asset
- Working knowledge of OH&S Act, Code & Regulation.
- Working knowledge of quality assurance and quality control practices for commercial construction.
- Experienced with rough framing and building wooden structures, including walls, roofs and flooring.
- Knowledge to perform finish work, such as new moldings and interior fixtures.
- Knowledge to design custom furniture, cabinets, cupboards, and interior walls
- Knowledge to choose the appropriate wood materials for interior and outdoor projects, choosing high-quality materials and matching clients’ budgets
- Knowledge of how to install reinforcements safely and correctly for concrete structures
- Knowledge of how to build concrete structures using formwork
- Ability to accurately measure and mark out areas to be constructed with concrete
- Understanding of different finishing techniques to ensure a high-quality finished product
- Awareness of health and safety regulations when working with concrete and construction materials
- Experience with building 1 story underground concrete structure with 1 - 4 floors of wood framing above
- Working at multiple sites requires personal transportation. Valid Driver’s license and suitable vehicle.
- In and out of town work assignments exist.
