Join the Senate as a Parliamentary Research Assistant for the Honourable Senator Robert Black
If you are driven by a passion for research and eager to contribute to the modernization of Canada’s Senate, this is the opportunity for you. As a Parliamentary Research Assistant, you will work closely with Senator Robert Black and his team, supporting legislative duties, committee work, and policy development.
Your contributions will include:
- Conducting in-depth research to support legislative initiatives and provide comprehensive analysis for the Chair of the Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry, as well as the Standing Committee on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament, and the Standing Joint Committee on the Library of Parliament;
- Assisting in the preparation of committee materials and supporting ongoing work across multiple committees;
- Writing speeches, drafting communications, and managing social media content to engage with the public and stakeholders;
- Reviewing news, media coverage, and relevant documents, and preparing background notes for Senator Black;
- Attending briefings and meetings on behalf of the senator, ensuring he is well-informed on critical issues.
In this role, you will make meaningful contributions to the legislative process, help shape policy discussions, and be a key player in supporting Senator Black’s initiatives.

**Prerequisites**
- University degree from a recognized university in political science or any other field related to the duties of the position and/or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience;
- Familiarity with the workings of the Senate, parliamentary procedures, and committee functions is highly desirable. Prior experience working in a legislative environment is considered an asset;
- Ability to conduct thorough, in-depth research using credible sources, analyze data, and present clear, concise reports that support legislative work and committee functions;
- Proven experience in writing well-structured, clear, and compelling reports, speeches, and communications;
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences, including the public, stakeholders, and government officials;
- Experience with social media platforms, including content creation, management, and monitoring, to effectively communicate with the public and engage in timely and accurate information dissemination;
- Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines;
- Extensive experience in using the MS-Office suite;
- English is essential. Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset;
- Willingness to work flexible hours, attend briefings and meetings, and adapt to changing priorities and legislative timelines.
