**Job Summary**

The Support Services Navigator will be responsible for oversight and coordination of the safe operation of the day-to-day operations and activities of a Drop-in Support Centre providing services to Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP Veterans who are homeless, at risk of becoming homeless or otherwise in crisis. The Support Services Navigator will spend the majority of their time directly interacting with the clientele of the support centre. The Support Services Navigator will conduct initial intakes to determine the needs of the Veteran and subsequently develop a plan to provide them with support or referrals based on their individual situation and also provide them with opportunities for socialization and the development of a support network.

**Responsibilities and Duties**
- Meet all Veterans and personnel who arrive at the Drop-in Support Centre.
- Conduct initial intake to determine the needs of Veterans who arrive at the Drop-in Support Centre.
- Provide information and direct support to Veterans who arrive at the centre once service verification is completed, as needed and directed.
- Provide information and referral support to personnel who arrive at the centre.
- Liaise and advocate with various community, Provincial and Federal organizations and social services in order to best support Veterans accessing the centre.
- Report to National Director of Operations weekly and on Veteran case updates.
- Manage and maintain the operation structure of the centre based on agreed terms with the National Director of Operations and CEO of VETS Canada.
- Maintain appropriate case notes on meetings with Veterans as well as provide monthly statistics to Headquarters.
- Conduct orientation training with volunteers who are supporting the services on a peer support level.
- Prepare monthly work schedule for on-site volunteer support. Prepare alternate coverage plans when necessary due to illness, vacation, or emergencies.
- Direct and support the volunteers in their duties while at the service centre.

**Required Experience, Skills and Qualifications**

Essential:

- Strong background in social services work (minimum 5 years in the field).
- Extensive experience in case management (minimum two years).
- Understanding of the Ottawa area and Ottawa Social Service resources.
- Understanding of provincial social assistance programs (Ontario Works, ODSP)
- Experience compiling reports, data management and crisis management.
- Extensive experience working with the vulnerable population (minimum of two years).
- Ability to work independently to solve issues.
- Certifications
- ASIST, MHFA, NVCI

Preferred:

- Preference will be given to a Veteran
- Experience working with Veterans.
- Understanding of Veterans Affairs Policies, Programs and Services.
- Experience with not-for-profit organization
- Ability to communicate in both official languages

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $42,000.00-$50,000.00 per year
