Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN) has a professional public service that supports the day-to-day operations of the Tsawwassen government. TFN currently has an exciting opportunity for a **Policy and** **Intergovernmental Relations Coordinator** to support internal progress reporting, as well as engagements and collaboration with the Provincial and Federal governments on a range of policy and legislative initiatives, including implementation of the Tsawwassen Final Agreement (Tsawwassen’s modern treaty).
This position ensures the smooth functioning of policy and intergovernmental operations, including document management, scheduling, correspondence, and reporting. It is a blend of administrative, reporting, and policy analysis functions. This position is responsible to the Manager of Policy and Intergovernmental Affairs.
**Specific Responsibilities**
- Catalog and manage records related to engagement with the Provincial and Federal Governments
- Complete initial reviews of engagement requests to determine potential interactions with Tsawwassen Laws, rights, and interests
- Coordinate with Policy Analysts and other departments to support development of policy positions and draft responses to engagement requests
- Coordinate participation in engagement meetings and represent TFN in engagement meetings as required
- Coordinate team input to weekly, quarterly, and annual reports and publications
- Provide additional executive assistant support to the Manager of Policy and Intergovernmental Affairs as needed, including expense reports and calendar management
**Qualifications**:
- Undergraduate degree in public administration, public policy, political science, communications, social science, or related field
- 1-3 years working in public administration, a First Nation environment, or other relevant experience
- Working knowledge of the functions of the various levels of government including federal, provincial, Treaty First Nation and municipal. Specific knowledge of the BC Treaty Process and modern Treaties is considered an asset
- Strong communication skills including the ability to write clearly, concisely, and logically
- Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships internally and externally, and synthesize input from various individuals
- Good administrative skills, including organization and use of Microsoft Office Suite. Microsoft Sharepoint experience is considered an asset
- Capacity to respond quickly to changing demands and priorities under tight deadlines
- Ability to exercise good judgment, tact and diplomacy to speak on behalf of TFN
**Working Conditions**:
Work is performed primarily indoors in an office environment - a hybrid work model that includes both in-office and remote work can be accommodated. Off-site travel is occasionally required to attend meetings, committees, conferences, and training events. Evening work may be required.
**Wages and Benefits**:
TFN government provides a competitive salary and excellent benefits package including enrolment in the Municipal Pension Plan. The wage range for this position is between $38.56/hr to $43.38/hr based on a 37.5 hour work week. Placement within the pay scale is based on a review of skills, experience and internal equity.
