Your Opportunity:
Social Work at the Sturgeon Hospital provides a unique opportunity to work to your full scope of practice. This position requires both a high degree of independent critical thinking as well as the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. You will have the opportunity to provide advanced level clinical Social Work services including mental health and substance use assessments, crisis intervention and counselling with patients and families in the emergency room and acute care hospital setting. Working from a concurrent capable perspective, you will be required to prioritize workload, formulate assessments and create intervention plans. These plans include psychosocial interventions, comprehensive risk assessment, and recommendations and provision of referrals for ongoing treatment and/or discharge planning. The Social worker will demonstrate exceptional communication skills with patients, family members and physicians. On weekends the Social Worker responds to emergent needs across all units of the Sturgeon Community Hospital (ICU/CCU, Labour and Delivery, Surgery, and inpatient units and ER). This requires a sound knowledge of the Mental Health Act, the Alberta Adult Guardianship and Trusteeship Act, and the options for patients to receive health care treatment when their decision-making ability is impaired. In addition, working knowledge of discharge planning, community resources, financial supports and processes related to transitions to alternate levels of care are an asset. This Position is based on a inpatient medicine unit.
