Foran Mining Corporation (TSX:FOM) is a forward-thinking mining company redefining the industry. We are seeking a **Community and Indigenous Engagement Lead** to join our growing McIlvenna Bay team.
This is a full-time position based out of Foran’s Saskatoon office, with frequent travel to the McIlvenna Bay Operation (MBO) site and local communities, or available as a remote work-from-home role within Saskatchewan, requiring frequent travel to Saskatoon, the MBO site, and local communities.
The McIlvenna Bay Cu-Zn-Au-Ag deposit is one of the largest undeveloped VHMS deposits in Canada. Foran recently announced (2024) approval by the Board of Directors for the project to proceed to the formal construction phase with initial production expected in Q4 2025. The McIlvenna Bay deposit’s core commodities are critical for the global transition to green energy and Foran aims to extract these critical minerals in a sustainable manner by empowering local communities, contributing to circular economies and protecting the environment for future generations.
The **Community and Indigenous Engagement Lead** is responsible for leading and undertaking engagement activities with the local communities and Indigenous peoples in support of McIlvenna Bay Operating Ltd. (MBO). This position will provide advice, guidance and leadership to Foran on the development and implementation of policies and procedures to advance reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and will lead Foran’s community investment program.
**Responsibilities**:
- Lead, develop and execute MBO’s public information program and Indigenous and local community engagement and consultation activities.
- Support MBO in the preparation of plain language information for presentation to land users, local communities and Indigenous peoples on topics of interest through meetings, information sessions, tours, and Foran’s website
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of MBO’s community engagement ensuring questions or concerns raised are tracked and resolved in order to support future strategy development, planning and contractual requirements.
- Prepare reports, dashboards, presentations, and other materials related to MBO’s engagement to provide visibility to project and initiative status to various internal and external audiences.
- Lead MBO’s reconciliation committee and action plan; providing leadership to MBO in developing and implementing reconciliation actions.
- Lead Foran’s Community Investment program and represent MBO at community investment events alongside other members of the community investment committee.
- Develop and implement cultural awareness training for MBO supervisors and employees to improve their understanding and knowledge of Indigenous partners and culture of nearby communities.
- Maintain and manage budgets associated with engagement and agreement activities.
**Job Qualifications and Skills**:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Business/Commerce, Public Relations, Communication (or equivalent) preferred
- 7+ years of relevant work experience
- Knowledge of Public communication and community and Indigenous engagement approaches and techniques
- Familiarity with Mining Industry
- From PBCN/CHCN
- Proven ability to build trust
- Understanding of legal obligations under the Duty to Consult and associated provincial and federal guidance
- Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook) suite of tools
- Excellent verbal/written communication, organizational and time management skills
- Ability to speak Cree considered an asset
- Must possess a valid drivers license for travel requirements
**Compensation and Benefits**:
We offer a competitive starting salary range of $95,000 - $115,000/year based on experience and qualifications. Annual discretionary short term incentive award at a percentage of base salary, rewarding exceptional contributions to team and company success.
