**Overview**:
The Indigenous Women’s Outreach Navigator, under the direction of the Executive Director, will provide physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual support to houseless or precariously housed Indigenous women with complex needs. The Outreach Navigator will work with Hamilton Police Services as part of the Rapid Intervention and Support Team (RIST) within the Crisis Response Branch (CRB), to provide prompt crisis supports to Indigenous women suffering from mental health, addictions, houselessness and/or impacted by human trafficking by providing appropriate referrals to Native Women’s Centre and other community agencies.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide effective case management and one to one supports to those impacted by mental health, addictions, trauma, homelessness and/or Human Trafficking victims and survivors to facilitate access to resources required;
- Engage with clients in a respectful, non-judgmental and supportive way that helps to improve their health and well-being;
- Provide crisis intervention supports and appropriate redirection from emergency;
- Incorporate Indigenous culture as a way of being and knowing in the organization;
- Respond to encampments for persons living “rough” and those housed but needing extra supports;
- Make appropriate referrals to a wide range of programs, services, resources, counselling, etc. based on client needs;
- Work from a harm reduction, trauma informed and strength based approach;
- Collect, maintain, and complete data/statistics reporting in a timely manner required to support funding sources

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary degree or equivalent in the social services field or other related fields, and/or 3+ years of relevant experience is essential;
- Demonstrated experience in effectively working with people with complex needs and vulnerabilities in the homelessness sector;
- Demonstrated knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history and impacts of trauma;
- Knowledge of community resources relevant to the Indigenous population and a strong ability to navigate the healthcare and housing system;
- Previous experience working with victims of crime including violence, assault, and human trafficking;
- Ability to create trusting relationships with vulnerable Indigenous women;
- Specialized training and experience in victim assistance, crisis intervention, mental health, addictions and other traumas;
- Access to a reliable vehicle, a valid Ontario “G” class driver’s license and clean driving record;
- Valid First Aid/ CPR, Non-violent Crisis Intervention, and Trauma Informed Training; and
- Clear Criminal Record Check (CPIC) with Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) and a Police Records and Background Check.

**Job Type**: Full Time (Monday-Friday) 8am to 4pm (Contract: up to 6 months)
