Food Safety Specialist

**Position Overview**:
We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced **Food Safety Specialist** to join our Quality Assurance team, with a specialized focus on ensuring the safety, compliance, and integrity of our **product portfolio**. This role requires a deep understanding of **BRCGS Global Standards**, **Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) and** **Canada Organic Regime (COR)**, along with practical expertise in managing supplier approval programs, and food safety documentation systems.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Develop, implement, and oversee **Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)** relevant to food safety, sanitation, traceability, allergen management, and organic handling protocols.
- Ensure full regulatory compliance of all products in accordance with the **Canada Organic Regime (COR)** and the **Safe Food for Canadians Act (SFCA)**.
- Work towards achieving **BRCGS Food Safety certification** by establishing, maintaining, and continuously improving the site’s Food Safety Management System, including document control, audit preparation, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Approve and manage **ingredient and raw material suppliers**, ensuring adherence to organic certification standards, food safety criteria, and internal specifications.
- Lead investigations into **customer complaints**, conduct root cause analysis, and coordinate the implementation of corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
- Develop and maintain HACCP plans to ensure regulatory compliance and effective control of food safety hazards.
- Conduct internal audits and support third-party audits and inspections, including those related to **Food safety and** **organic certification**:
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional departments including Procurement, Production, and R&D to embed food safety and organic compliance into all product development and operational workflows.
- Monitor evolving regulatory requirements and industry best practices in food safety, ensuring the company remains ahead of compliance obligations.
**Qualifications and Experience**:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Quality Assurance, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in food safety
- Thorough understanding of applicable regulatory frameworks, including **BRCGS, SFCR and COR**.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing SOPs, HACCP plans, and food safety documentation in a certified organic environment.
- Strong knowledge of supplier verification processes and ingredient risk assessments.
- Proven ability to analyze and resolve food safety incidents, including consumer complaints, non-conformances, and audit findings.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
- Certification in HACCP and Internal Auditor Training (BRCGS or equivalent) is strongly
