The University of Victoria Centre for Aerospace Research is looking for an Operations Assistant to help us coordinate our facility and teams that design and build remotely piloted aerial vehicles (RPAS).

The University of Victoria’s Centre for Aerospace Research (UVic CfAR) has become a Canadian leader in Unmanned Air Systems research, design, integration, and testing. Our team of engineers, post-docs, and graduate and co-op students focus on creating cutting-edge designs from initial concepts to flight operations. Our office and workshop is located in beautiful Sidney, BC.

The operations assistant will primarily work with the operations manager to assist our team of 35 employees, and work directly with the various engineering team leaders. The primary objectives for the operations assistant are to oversee and track project procurements, financial processes, forecasting as well as assist with resource allocation. Further, the operations assistant will assist with various human resources aspects of the Centre.
The operations assistant will also spend a portion of their time performing technical design and experimental testing work. This work will depend on the applicant’s educational and experiential background. The work would be with one of our three main disciplines: mechanical engineering (aircraft structures, mechanism design, and manufacturing), electrical engineering (aircraft electrical systems design and implementation), or flight dynamics modelling, simulation, and data analytics.

Expected roles and responsibilities would include, but are not limited to:
- Track project budgets in collaboration with CfAR team leads
- Coordinate internal resources to align with project plans
- Communicate with vendors for quotations, procurements and invoicing
- Ensure purchasing records are kept up-to-date and accurate
- Building, managing, and modifying project schedules
- Planning and logistics for major flight testing operations or major shipments
- Contribute to periodic financial and progress reporting
- Develop materials cost estimates for prototype aircraft projects
- Managing, improving, and developing internal controls and documentation for areas such as:
- Purchasing
- Asset management
- Workplace safety
- Training/professional development
- Administrative office tasks to assist team leads and Centre operations
- **Qualifications**_
**REQUIRED**:
- **Education**:Undergraduate Degree or Diploma, preference to Engineering and Applied Science
- Proficient with budget tracking tools, specifically in Excel
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for internal, supplier, and client-facing interactions
- Data analysis and management skills
- Excellent organization and multitask skills
**PREFERRED**:
- Education or experience in operations, logistics, business, or management
- Aerospace engineering project exposure
- Experience with project management software (e.g. Microsoft Project)
- Exposure to CAD design (Solidworks, Blender)
- Experience with RC models, specifically RC aircraft
**OTHER**
- Experience with piloting UAV’s (drones)
- Passion for aerospace development and research, especially around unconventional configurations or green technology
- Interest in project management, business management, or business development
- Experience/Interest in using video editing software for creating promotional videos (e.g. Premier Pro, DaVinci Resolve)
**Salary**: $4,000.00-$5,000.00 per month
