**Primary Purpose**
The purpose of the Technical Writing Specialist is to produce high-quality and understandable documentation with the goal to improve organizational processes. With IT expertise, Technical Writing Specialist is also responsible for ensuring the proper communication organization-wide in terms of the system stability, and updates on policies and procedures.
**Specific Responsibilities**
The Technical Writing Specialist will at various times be responsible for the following as well as other related duties as assigned to support the business objectives and purpose of the University.
- Provide, create, and develop documentation for end-users and managers, that is appropriate and easy to use (including, but not limited to setting up Outlook, MS Teams, resetting the passwords, etc.)
- Collaborate with the other IT specialists and officers.
- Create communications for organizational updates on policies and procedures.
- Provide, create, and develop documentation for internal processes within UCW.
- Provide end-users and managers with the training, including but not limited to MS Teams training, Outlook training, etc.
- Maintain general IT processes e.g., account creation, daily technical support, etc.
- Research and collect usability feedback.
- Assist users and managers on how systems work at UCW, and make sure that they are kept up to date.
- Train new employees in the IT department.
- Develop and deliver the Microsoft Teams training for use in classrooms for teaching purposes, and for use in large conference calls and webinars.
**Position Requirements**
To be successful in the Technical Writing Specialist position, an individual must be committed to developing, maintaining, and demonstrating the following:
**Competencies**:
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner
- Ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) in both highly technical and non-technical environments with all levels of the organization
- Ability to translate highly technical information into easily understandable information for customers
- Creative skills and usage of photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts that increase users’ understanding Excellent written skills in English Knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Ability to understand business operations and demonstrate value throughout the organization
- Ability to interpret and comply with UCW policies, procedures, and regulations
- Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
- Strong understanding of information systems
- Ability to complete work in a timely manner, with accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
- Good judgment and ability to prioritize tasks/assignments
- Ability to work under pressure and maintain a calm focus during high-volume periods
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, critical & conceptual thinking skills
- Knowledge of Active Directory would be preferred
- Microsoft software Required (Azure, MS 365)
**Education and Experience**:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other IT-related degree
- Diploma or Certificate in Journalism is an asset
- Strong interest in information technology and global IT-solutions
- 3-5 years of experience in technical writing and the use of IT systems at the advanced user level
**Salary**: $55,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
