As a 911 Public Safety Communications Officer, you play a vital role in public safety, you are a lifeline between the communities of PEI and the public safety resources they require. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Public Safety Communications Officer is responsible for the following:

- Supporting Islanders by answering and handling 911 calls as per _Standard Operating Procedures_. This includes the provision of Emergency Medical Dispatch instructions for emergency situations such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), childbirth, choking, bleeding control and more through use of _Medical Priority Dispatch System_
- Delivering emergency service dispatching
- Delivering high-quality customer service for all customers/patients
- Monitoring and coordinating the movement of Island EMS resources
- Booking and coordinating non-emergency ambulance transfers
- Managing handoffs, off-load delays, out of province coordination, emergency department back logs, and shift over-runs
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with the internal Shift Captains & Teams
- Support internal and external service inquiries through reporting
- Collaborate alongside emergency personnel to answer the call to public safety.

- As Medacom Atlantic is a 24hr emergency service, the successful applicant must be available to work rotating 10-12 hour shifts including some days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. An availability calendar is available to request time off and identify availabilities.

Requirements
- High School diploma (or equivalent)
- Excellent communications skills in English (bilingualism is an asset)
- Excellent computer proficiency
- Work experience or education in a similar environment is an asset such as:

- Technology
- Communications
- Customer Service
- Online medical support, etc.
- Valid CPR Level C certification
- Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector
- Standard Employment Hearing Assessment
- Successfully complete our aptitude test
- Emergency Medical Dispatcher Certification (EMD) course provided by the employer. Employee is responsible for maintaining certification every 2 years.
- Successfully complete paid internal training (8-10 weeks)
- In-house classroom & on-the-job training program
