**Four Directions Family Support Program**
**Cultural Program Facilitator**
**This is a part-time position - 14 hours per week**
**Starting: As soon as possible/as funding allows**

The primary focus of the Cultural Program Facilitator is to provide families teachings with the primary
target population being Indigenous families, and the second target population being non-Indigenous
families who may be involved with or who are at risk of being involved with Children’s Services Authority
and facilitate culturally appropriate workshops for children and parents that wish to register in the
Celebrating Families and Wellbriety programs. Group facilitators provide participants with information
and serve as healthy role models and advocates for successful recovery.

**Groups are designed to develop a safe and consistent environment; the Cultural Program Facilitator will**
**work non-intrusively with the parents and children to facilitate the learning of**:

- Better communication skills
- How to appropriately express their feelings
- Demonstrating anger management skills
- Being able to use problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Developing coping skills to deal with stressful situations
- Increasing their knowledge of the impact of alcohol and other substances on children,
individuals, and families
- Providing a safe, nurturing place for children and parents to talk and explore their feelings and
choices
- Facilitating trust through a process of bonding with consistent role modeling
- Developing their self-awareness and self-worth
- How chemical dependency is a disease and how it affects family members
- The 12 steps to sobriety using the Medicine Wheel

**Duties (may include, but are not limited to)**:
1. Implement bi-weekly workshops using the Celebrating Families and Wellbriety curriculum in
collaboration with other facilitators;
2. Collaboratively facilitate monthly check-ins with all group leaders;
3. Document all survey and anecdotal evidence discovered in program sessions;
4. Participate in community events pertaining indirectly to the Indigenous community and directly
related to Red Deer Native Friendship Society;
5. Participate in weekly Four Directions team meetings to evaluate participant and program
progress;
6. Complete quarterly and annual reports of outcome measures for the funder;
7. Provide monthly and quarterly reports for the Director of Programs and the Executive Director;
and,
8. Any other duties as requested or required for the good of Red Deer Native Friendship Society

**Qualifications, Experience, and Skills**:

- Teaching/facilitation skills
- Positive parenting skills (and experience)
- Ability to build positive working relationships with a variety of individuals, groups, and
organizations
- Respect and support local Indigenous cultural values, beliefs, and traditions
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with Indigenous participants, including sound
knowledge and understanding of the issues that impact the culture in contemporary society
- Experience working with at-risk First Nation, Inuit, and Métis population
- Knowledge of social, economic, and health issues relevant to the urban Indigenous community
- Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills and the ability to work
effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
- Strong organizational and negotiating skills and the ability to handle sensitive issues with tact
and diplomacy
- Excellent time management skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Observation skills
