Reporting to the Executive Director/Team Lead, the Shelter Overnight Worker provides direct support to survivors of domestic violence in a safe, trauma-informed, and holistic environment. This role ensures the safety and well-being of clients during the overnight hours and is an awake position.

Kirsten’s Place is in Olds, Alberta and provides temporary shelter for individuals and their children who are fleeing domestic violence. We offer support for adults, and their children, through our trauma informed case management that focuses on individualized goals, emotional support, safety planning, resource navigation and advocacy to assist our clients and their children as they build a new life free from violence.

**EXAMPLES OF KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE**:

- Actively engages with clients and their children throughout their stay at the shelter, role modelling healthy boundaries and relationships.
- Provide trauma-informed crisis intervention, emotional support, and conflict resolution between clients.
- Assist clients in implementing their safety plans and meeting individualized goals.
- Answers crisis calls during shift, providing information, safety planning, support referrals to callers.
- Assist in the functions of the shelter including meal preparation, shelter laundry and housekeeping duties to ensure that the shelter meets all AHS standards.
- Document interactions and incidents accurately and promptly, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with policy and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with team, community partners, law enforcement, and other service providers as needed

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Post secondary education in a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in social services, crisis intervention, or a related field (experience working with survivors of domestic violence is preferred).
- Understanding of trauma-informed care, crisis de-escalation techniques, and empowerment-based advocacy.
- Clear Police Intervention Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Intervention Check
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and boundary-setting skills.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to work in a team and with mínimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability to think critically, problem solve and de-escalate situations in a fast-paced environment that requires prioritization of tasks.
- The role involves working in a domestic violence crisis shelter using a trauma-informed, client-centered approach. You will witness or respond tor real-life incidents and events in real-time and requires emotional resilience due to frequent exposure to trauma and crisis.

**WORK ENVIRONMENT**
- Requires standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
- This role involves working alone at the program during the overnight shift. Afterhours support is available.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $24.50-$25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
