**OVERVIEW**

The Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, training, supervision, and support of all volunteers and practicum students at North Point Douglas Women’s Centre (NPDWC). This role also includes coordinating and leading community patrols, expanding the Mama Bear Clan to include an additional weekly patrol, and developing new outreach initiatives in collaboration with the leadership team. This position requires skills in volunteer coordination, facilitation, program planning, and leadership. Regular evening and weekend work is required, including some Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

**QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS**
- Commitment to the mission and vision of North Point Douglas Women’s Centre.
- Ability to work from a strength-based, culturally safe, harm reduction approach.
- Minimum two years of experience in a frontline community work environment, with demonstrated experience in volunteer coordination, engagement, and support.
- Strong facilitation skills and the ability to lead volunteer meetings, trainings, and debriefings in a supportive, engaging manner.
- Demonstrated ability to create inclusive, welcoming environments for volunteers and practicum students from diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge of the resources available in the community to women experiencing poverty, homelessness, violence, chaotic substance use, mental illness, etc.
- Strong self-awareness, able to engage complex situations with clarity and respect for all.
- Strong conflict resolution skills; comfortable engaging with and de-escalating conflict.
- Knowledge of the current and historical effects of colonization on Indigenous people and experience supporting people to access traditional practices, reclaim culture, and navigate the unique barriers they face.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including knowledge and use of Microsoft 365 programs.
- Lived or living experience of substance use, food or housing insecurity, system involvement (EIA, CFS, etc.) poverty, and/or other types of barriers faced by inner city communities is welcomed and respected.
- Education in Urban and Inner-City Studies, Social Work, or other related discipline is an asset.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Check.
- It is a requirement that this position be filled by a woman or gender-diverse person.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record. Access to a reliable vehicle is an asset but not required.
- Valid certification in Naloxone administration, First Aid/CPR, crisis intervention, etc. or willingness to obtain certification.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

1. Follow NPDWC policies, procedures, and respect guidelines.

2. Attend all team meetings, learning gatherings, training, and other events as needed.

3. Engage in clear and effective communication.

4. Lead the recruitment, screening, onboarding, and training of volunteers and practicum students for the Mama Bear Clan patrol, Drop-In, and other outreach programming.

5. Maintain statistical data and records for Mama Bear Clan and other outreach initiatives.

6. Maintain Mama Bear Clan storage area and inventory; ensure patrol supplies are prepared in advance.

7. Plan and facilitate Mama Bear Clan patrols and volunteer meetings as needed.

8. Respond to incidents on patrol, including basic crisis intervention, calling emergency services, and back-end reporting, debriefing with volunteers, and implementing policy/procedure changes as needed.

9. Participate in a minimum of 50% of monthly patrols. This will begin with Friday evenings and eventually expand to Sunday afternoons.

10. Respond to requests for support outside NPDWC as staffing allows.

11. Support the development of additional outreach initiatives in collaboration with the NPDWC leadership team.

12. Provide direct support to community members with higher or more complex needs on patrol, in the Drop-In, and during any other Outreach initiatives.

13. Other duties as assigned, consistent with this job description and approved by Centre policies, procedures, and the Executive Director.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 9-21 months

Pay: $24.00-$30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
