Mi’kmaw/wolastoqey/indigenous Program Manager

Mount Saint Vincent University will partner with members of Mi'kmaw and Indigenous communities/organizations and the tourism industry to, via the Kinu (inclusive of/us/everyone) Tourism Project Pan-Atlantic Initiative, to create a sustainable Indigenous Cohort Tourism Education Program that will incorporate Two-Eyed Seeing and contributes to a diverse and robust tourism workforce, which is essential to economic recovery post pandemic in the Atlantic Region.
The project specific objectives are to:
- Identify facilitators and barriers to the development of Indigenous Tourism Entrepreneurs;
- Improve Indigenous student access to post-secondary education by highlighting and reducing barriers to accessing education;
- Create and strengthen networks between MSVU faculty, Indigenous communities, and tourism professionals;
- Diversify and grow tourism labor force, which in turn addresses issues related to a labor shortage in the Tourism industry; and
- Increase Indigenous engagement in post-secondary experiences and scholarship by building society's awareness around Indigenous worldviews and ways of knowing Canada's true history and connection to the environment.
