**Summer Environment and Data Researcher**
**Location**: 11821 123 St, Edmonton, AB
**Position Status**:Full Time (40 hrs per week), Summer Student (April-August)
**Key Responsibilities**
- Assist the Environment and Climate Change staff in research and data gathering for reporting, information sharing, and data analysis purposes.
- Input data collected in digital and physical formats from citizen engagements, field projects, and surveys into the Environment and Climate Change department’s database management system.
- Retrieve and assist with analyzing data, from both internal and external sources, as requested in the support of the department’s projects and initiatives.
- Assist with synthesizing various types of data into easily understood and accessible formats for citizen reporting.
- Support Environment and Climate Change project field activities, including environmental monitoring, site visits, and community events.
- Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, citizens, visitors, and other external stakeholders.
- Other duties as required or assigned.
**Skills & Competencies**
We are looking for motivated, confident individuals who are passionate about data and research activities and have excellent analytical skills. Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with colleagues is required. Other skills/competencies include:
- Strong computer skills and an ability to learn and use a variety of software.
- Familiarity with statistical methodologies and data analysis, both qualitative and quantitative.
- Experience using Microsoft Excel.
- Experience coding or programming is considered an asset.
- Experience in designing and conducting research projects and synthesizing various types of data into reports and presentations.
- Basic understanding of the ESRI ArcGIS software for the purposes of map creation, geospatial data creation, and editing, is considered an asset.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Flexible and adaptable, with an ability to switch between multiple priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.
- Ability to produce professional reports, documents, and presentations.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and willingness to learn new skills.
- Political and cultural sensitivity.
- Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture is an asset.
**Qualifications**
- Post-secondary education in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Geography, Geographic Information System, Statistics, Social Sciences or related field is preferred. Other relevant training and experience will be considered.
- Experience, education, or training in collecting, storing, and managing qualitative and quantitative data is an asset.
- Experience with ArcGIS Online platform and associated products such as Story Maps, Collector, Survey 123, Field Maps, is an asset.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset.
**Other Requirements**
- Availability to work Monday to Friday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
- Ability to travel throughout Alberta is a requirement.
- Reliable transportation is required.
