TBDSSAB supports people to improve their lives and become self-sufficient. We do this as the service system manager for vital, quality social services needed by individuals and families living in the District of Thunder Bay --- including child care and early years, community housing, homelessness prevention programs --- and through the delivery of Ontario Works.

Under the general direction of the Manager, Social Assistance Programs, the Supervisor, Social Assistance Programs supervises staff in the delivery of services and programs to ensure they are delivered in a responsible and cost-effective manner in accordance with established policies and procedures.

**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**:
1. Coordinate activities and train and direct staff in the delivery of Division programs.

2. Identify and communicate staffing needs and participate in recruitment as required.

3. Supervise assigned staff including performance management activities.

4. Monitor, assess, and approve benefit issuance under related legislation ensuring all legislated regulations and divisional and policies.

5. Perform case audits to ensure relevant legislative requirements and divisional/TBDSSAB policies are adhered to; provides case-management advice to staff.

6. Investigate and resolve concerns and/or complaints or escalate to Manager as necessary.

7. Research, develop, and compile statistical reports; makes recommendation to the Client Services Manager concerning operating procedures and standard practices.

8. Co-operate with community professionals and outside agencies in the delivery of programs.

9. Perform such other related duties as may be assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education/Experience**
- Degree or diploma in business administration, Social Work, or related discipline together with a minimum of three years of experience in the human services field.
- Supervisory experience preferably in a unionized environment.

**Skills/Abilities**
- Strong knowledge of acts, regulations, policies, and programs related to a variety of municipal, provincial, and federal social assistance programs and ability to interpret related acts, regulations, and policies.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with subordinates, co-workers, and the public.
- Strong leadership skills together with the ability to motivate staff.
- Superior problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency with office computer equipment and MS Office software.
- Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.

**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**:

- The use of a vehicle may be required.
- Must undergo a successful police records check, Type 2.
